I need to buy four new speakers, the ones for the arch and the aft speakers. It has Clarion 100w 6.5" speakers now. What would some of you suggest I replace them with?

JL Audio 6.5's. I replaced the stock clarion units and they sound much better. Same hole pattern made it a 15 minute job. PM me for the dealer I found to have the best price. You can also sell the old ones on ebay and get some of your money back on the new purchase.

I put polk DB651s in my arch and love 'em. They are marine approved.

The sound difference between the JL Audio and Polk is minimal, but the prices for the JL are ludicrous in comparison to Polks'. It's your money........

What is the difference between the 650 and 651s?
Oh and thanks for the replies

651's are shallow mounting depth, thus the arch install recomendation as the arch is usually not as deep.

I found JL Audio 6.5" speakers on e b a y for a much less expensive price than what most etailers were asking.

I put in Polk db651 earlier this year. I picked them up(at 50% off) at Circuit City when they were closing. I later found out that Polk was allowing other retailers to sell them at the same price when Circuit City was liquidating.

Here is a place at LOTO that appears to do some "over the top" installs.....

I replaced mine this spring with JL Audio M770 ccx-sg-wh 7in speakers with a 10 in. JL Audio subwoofer M101 B5 and it sounds awesome. Pricey but unreal range for those speakers especially when cruising at 25 mph. I also put in a JL Audio amp and changed the radio to an Alpine cda9886m. It is night and day difference from stock and I had everything installed parts and labor for less than 1500.

+1 but I would check with Jim at BOEmarine.com!!!

I have the JLM770 and it is amazing. Pricey but you get what you pay for. I have my speakers hooked up to a 400 watt amp. I was next to a friends boat and he turned off his music because mine sounded so much better.

About JL speakers on the internet, their web site has some interesting information on it... Especially around marine speakers. Looks like buyer beware..

http://marine.jlaudio.com/jlaudio_pages.php?page_id=27

I looked in quite a few places related to marine speakers on that website and couldn't find the buyer beware data you are referring to. Can you be a bit more explicit about where it is?

I put the Polk 650's in my 300da, only two in the back with an Alpine 300w 4 channel amp and a 6.5" bazooka tube under the back seat. (thanks Quint4) and it sounds very good. I had a radio dealer next to me and he was very impressed with the sound for the money. About $250for the speakers and amp. I also added a Kenwood head with usb (the only way to go no cd's just a stick) for $150 more. I was thinking of adding 2 more polks in the radar arch and running them parallel with the other polks to get more sound upfront. Any thoughts or leave well enough alone?

What set up have you got on the boat in total then?? I'm interested as I have the same boat and want to change it all!

Minimal difference at very low volume maybe....but my experience is that there is no comparison once you feed them. Like others have said, you get what you pay for. The Polks are decent for price though.

I replaced my Clarion speakers with Polk db's and I lovem. Amazon has great deals on them. I'm about to buy a 10" Polk db subwoofer too.
