New Site Update - Report problems here

I had no idea why people were complaining about the site being slow and non-responsive because I thought it was working great... UNTIL TODAY. For a couple hours I could not get a full page to load, nor go to "alerts". It kept timing out or just hung. Seems to be working fine now though. I'm using the Brave browser.

Yeah, I hit a wall around lunch time where it wouldn't load... it's back to normal now.

Well, I finally gave up and installed AdBlock Plus….and STILL SEE THE DAMN ADS!!!:mad::mad::mad:

and, from what I understand, the “block ads” feature available to sponsors isn working, either.

I was a sponsor, until I was laid off in about 2002 and we put the boat on the hard for 5 years. Just never re-upped. I will, but it doesn’t sound like sponsorship has much benefit right now.

How many have found information on their boat that another member of this forum gratefully provided. Or, how about fixing something and not having to find some cheesehead that will cost an arm and leg to get it done? How may have stepped out and sent a part to a needy owner on this forum or posted a wiring diagram or some obscure dimension they had to go to the boat to get.
Or how about a lead on a hard to find part?
Or post twenty times to help someone work through some damn Mercruiser issue.
Or a way to work on that darn generator and get it running?

The unique common tie to all of this is this Forum.

Bunch of chuckleheads. Bitch about an expensive service that is having growing pains, wanting everything yet contributing nothing.
Not railing on you @JeffM but in the line of fire....

What is happening?…… you guys are scaring me. You will never find a forum with more information and more entertaining….. this isn’t free Jim pays for it. Support him….. your ad bullshit is your own fault….. Fix your browsers and take ownership or leave this isn’t hard

Oh stop yourself. I am fine with ads. I have even clicked on some that are relevant to me. But the ads have become an annoyance. They chop up the forum and make it more confusing and less useful. There is no reason the forum software can't place the ads without mucking up the user experience. Other sites do it just fine.

Sorry dude, but wanting a good user experience isn't too much to ask. Yes everything you said is correct about the usefulness of the site. But this thread is a "post your problem" thread -- and many of us are having issues with the software and the placement of ads. Growing pains is fine.

It's the ask the captains section, available to gold and platinum only. I know the silver is only $25, but it's still a paying member, apparently you don't think the $25 means anything.
That's all I'm saying on the matter, I'm all good.
Silver has always had permission for that section.

It's done that for quite a while now. Some servers steer CPU priority when daily backup activities occur and that greatly slows access; maybe that is what is happening. We did server backup (maintenance) before work in the early mornings so it didn't interrupt access.

Exactly, there are probably priority task's running for server maintenance that are slowing down access.

"dude" sheesh.... Let's try this -
If you are using Windows, open the site to your favorite page with the ads showing. Then right click on your mouse then click on inspect at the bottom of the list. The Forum's HTML code will appear on the right of your screen. If you look at that and see "googleads" in any of the lines then be aware that as the page is loaded on your junk, Google inserts the ads. This is not a problem with the forum and it's source. There are other ad "inserters" also besides Google but they are the worst by far. There is only so much the provider's software can do to limit the insertion and collection of data.
