Hey gang,

So last week I figured I probably should have a prop wrench in my arsenal, so I placed an order for one , it arrived yesterday while we were out on the lake in our new boat, on it's 5th voyage.

Anyway so this morning the wife and I were doing our routine boat cleanup, she does inside and I do outside. I thought well I have a wrench now, might out to check it. Before I got the wrench out of the package, I reached down and tried to move the tabbed washer, well it felt loose!
So I grabbed the new wrench, and boy was that prop nut loose - got it tightened up!

Anyway I am probably the only one that took a new boat out and never checked it, but I am so glad I did, could have been nasty... no idea if it was good and tight when I took delivery of the new boat and just worked loose over these five trips, or was not tightened good from the start. In hindsight, I should have got the wrench right away and that probably should have been the first thing I checked.

It's easy to assume those types of things are always good to go, but since you trailer they're easy to check. No harm, no foul. Now you'll remember next time.

While you are checking things, check the 2, one in each catalyst, little plugs on top. One of my blew out at full speed a couple of weeks ago and went to check the other one and it was ready to come out. Checked at dealer they just said they were regular plugs and didn't have them but could order it. Since they go into cast I got brass plugs(threads match) and good to go. Didn't hurt anything but you don't want that hot exhaust blowing in engine compartment.

Will do - could you please clarify for me though, where exactly I look for those?

Thanks,

It as a tiny little black plug before, brass ones fit fine and won't rust.

I always carry a prop wrench in the boat with a spare prop just in case a hub spins.
One tip if you ever need to change or tighten a prop nut in the water put the wrench on a rope long enough to reach the nut and attach it to your ladder even a floating wrench can float away before you can get to it.
