Howdy all,

New member and am enjoying the site and comments. I bought my current Sea Ray about a year ago, making it my 3rd in about 10 years. I personally enjoy the older models due to the weight and classical design. Im looking forward to learning more about these great boats and also locating some parts I would like to replace.

Thanks,

Rob

Well, Welcome to Club SeaRay. I am sure you will find all the help you need and also the parts your looking for. This is a class act bunch on this site and all are willing to lend advice on any issue you may confront.

Welcome!

Welcome Rob, nice to see another Sea Ray from the 80's...look forward any pictures you can share.

Hi Jeff,

I thought I put a picture of my boat on my profile but obviously Im not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computers. Yes, I love the early Sea Rays and really have no desire to go much newer. The boat behind me is a new 34' Sea Ray and I just dont like it as much as mine. Guess the older I get the more I hate change!!

Rob

Thanks for the welcome. Look forward to getting to know the members and attending the Sea Ray event at Catalina this summer.

Welcome Rob! I'm new here (just joined last week). I have a 1978 SRV300 that my Dad and I are restoring (you can see pics of how rough it is on my profile in the 'albums').

Jason

Thanks for the welcome. You picked a nice project to work on (though a boat is NEVER done). I tried getting my son interested in boating and working on our boat years ago but couldnt get him away from his nintendo long enough for him to give it a chance. Keep updating your progress with pictures and sharing them.

Rob

Welcome :)

I agree with you completely about the older Sea Rays, Atlantis is my 2nd. I would probably go to the late 80's maybe early 90's but probably not much newer then that. I also understand what your saying about your Son, mine took a little interest in my SRV195 runabout and I thought he would be really excited about Atlantis but alas his Girlfriend and computer games won his attention and he faded away from boating. My Wife however loves our boat! :)

Looking forward to seeing pictures when you get some posted.

So Im not alone regarding the lack of interest with kids and boating !! My wife and boating, in her own words, "Is like going camping". She does go to Catalina Island once in awhile with me but prefers harbor cruising and dinner cruises or just spending the weekend on the water in the slip. Hey, in my opinion more guys time and fishing.

As for the pictures of my boat I think if you click on my screen name you can see a picture of my boat. As for how in the world I can attach it to be seen has David Copperfield asking the same question.

Rob

Ive got to tell you in the countless years I have had that screen name you are the first one to ask that question. Yes, I have a 1970 Superbird

Sweet!!! I am soooo jealous. I’m a Chrysler junkie too. Had my share of them before the collector craze hit, including a 69 Charger RT SE and 69 Road Runner ¼ mile bracket car. Always wanted a wing car but other responsibilities seemed to be higher on the list. I have a plain jane 69 Charger and a couple of “A” bodies left.

I used to live up your way...Oak Harbor to be exact. Lots of Mopars up that way. I also have a 1970 convertible Road Runner with 23k original miles. Fully loaded from A/C to power windows. Fun cars but I prefer boating by far although the wife would prefer I sold both hobbies so I would be home more. I cant wait till summer gets here though I still take the boat out at least 3x a month just to keep the fluids moving. Letting a boat sit is the worst thing for it.

That’s funny…I spend my weekdays up in Oak Harbor. I'm taking some Marine Tech classes at the College. I tried applying at a marine shop last spring and they told me I wasn't qualified. Even though I have both auto and marine background I don’t have a piece of paper that says I am marine certified. Such is life, gotta jump through the hoops to get anywhere I guess.

I’ve always liked the 70 RR's better than the other years and a vert is even better. I got into the late 60’s to early 70’s Chrysler cars back in high school, and still have my first car, a 64 Plymouth Barracuda. I have a few others that I think are kinda neat but are not real high on the collector list.

Your wife is probably right, you would be home more, in her hair and drive her crazy or she would add to the honey–do list and drive you crazy. LOL My g/f is okay with my hobbies when I point out that I don’t have other hobbies or addictions such as chasin other women, drugs, gambling, etc, etc…. She knows I’m in the garage or the boat when not at the house. I tell her it’s therapy for me.

Summer?? I thought you guys have warm weather down there, or should I say warmer than here…

Mopar guys huh, you guys are everywhere lol. I just sold my 70 Challenger two weeks ago. I am glad I still have my boat, it took the sting out of selling the Challenger.

Wow, this site is getting better all the time! We need to start a new sub forum "Classic Sea Rays and Classic Mopars".

My grandfather sold Willys and Chrysler from the 30s-70s. My first was a '76 Duster (totaled twice otherwise I'd still have it...). Brother (kybishop) started with Challengers.

Now I mostly have pickups for practicality (farm). Have a '51 Power Wagon, '76 M880 and '92 W250 CTD.

As for family & boats, I think it helps to start early. Fortunately for me my wife grew up on the water like me and she'd rather be on the boat than anywhere else. The kids have been in & on the water since little and like to tube, jet ski, fish, swim, hang out etc. Once they discover the opposite sex, well that may help or hurt ...

My brother just emailed me a 300 WE with twin 318s - the best of both worlds!

LOL!! I agree and with hemibird being the newest member I nominate him to start it off with a picture of his bird…:smt038

I agree, gotta start early with the kids. In my experiences it has made a lasting impression with them. A few years ago a friend of mine told me that his kids (under 10 at the time) really wanted to go fishing. He told me that fishing was kinda like golf, a total waist of time, and really had no interest in it. I started taking all three of his kids fishing and we would have a blast. Guess who bought a boat last year….

When I first met my g/f I told her about my boating, fishing hobbies/addictions and she was okay with it. Her ex was not into outdoor activities and wanted nothing to do with being on the water or any kinda fishing so this would be fun for her and her now 9 y/o daughter.

I have made out real good, as I get to be the one to introduce her to all the fun. Two years ago they went with me to the annual camping/fishing trip with all of my friends. It was the daughters first time in a boat or fishing. She caught the biggest fish that weekend out of the whole group and had a huge smile on her face all weekend long. It was priceless. Hmm, now that I think about it, it’s no wonder her dad doesn’t like me.

So, I agree, start them early, and take some of their friends if you can.

I wouldn't know about the family deal yet, my wife is due in June. That's why I sold my Challenger and downgraded from a QC 4x4 cummins ram 2500 to a durango. My brother still has his 71 duster that I sold him, he doesn't mess with it much so I will probably take that project over LOL. My family and I are die hard Mopar or no car folks, nothing but the best for us. But I LOVE the water just as much.

Yep, kids spend too much time inside hooked up to electronics. Nothing better than a weekend or week on the water away from all that stuff.

You've made a lasting impression and connection to your g/f's daughter.

Hey Slow Ray, just realized you're in KY. What year was your Challenger? And congrats on becomeing a dad. Kids are a good excuse (once you can afford it) to upgrade both vehicles and boats!
