Hello Sea Ray Owners:
My name is Jerry Nessenson. I have owned 7 Sea Rays since 1975. I currrently have the Miss-Julie a fantastic 1999 500DA. I am also the founder and president of ValvTect Petroleum and ValvTect Marine Fuels. I was formally with Texaco and helped develop the Texaco Star Port marina program.

I developed ValvTect Marine Fuels to help provide boaters (like me and you) gasoline and diesel fuel specially formulated for marine engines and the very diffficult marine operating conditions (high moisture, heat, higher fuel burn rates, etc). I believe boaters should not have to worry about diesel fuel with bugs (bacteria), water, poor stabiliation, excessive filter plugging or any other problems from ethanol gasoline (such as phase seperation) or ultra low sulfur diesel. There are now almost 500 Certified ValvTect Marinas where fuel storage tanks are tested for contamination and the fuel contains all the additional fuel additives needed to give boaters a trouble free boating experiance (from fuel anyway).

This is not a commercial, but just an introduction. I don't check the site very often, however if anyone would like to contact me at ValvTect regarding any questions you may have about fuels (ethanol, conventional gasoline, ultra low sulfur diesel or biodiesel) you may post a note or best e-mail me at gnessenson@valvtect.com.

Best regards and happy boating,
Skipper Ness (Jerry)

Welcome to CSR we are glad to have you here.

Hi Jerry

Glad you're on board and with one heck of a nice boat.

I have a question. According to this report Valvtech treated ULSD performed worse in the HFRR test than untreated ULSD. I don't know if the HFFR test was performed according to ISO or ASTM guidelines. Why did Valvtech perform in such a fashion in this testing? It seems to me that the methodology was fairly sound.

Best regards,
Frank C

Hello Frank:
We were recently made aware of the test and the results. The results have us puzzled as we formulate our "current" ValvTect Marine and Diesel Guard Premium Diesel additives with enough lubricity improver to to meet the more severe Eurpoean specification (460mm wear scare versus the lesser 520mm U.S. specification) as we formualte products for diesel engine manufactures, some of nation's largest fleets (Fedx, etc.) over 500 fuel distributors and refiners.

My understanding is that the company that ran the test project purchased the products used for the test from dealers. Our only guess is that the ValvTect product they purchased may have been produced before ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) was introduced at which time we increased the amount of lubricity improver to compensate for the reduction of sulfur from 500ppm to 15ppm. Our technical department is to contact the company and get the batch code off the container to determine when the product was produced and the formula. Finally, it is hard for us to understand how the test could possibly show the fuel treated with ValvTect Marine Diesel additive could show a worse result than untreated ULSD.

Be assured that ValvTect Marine Diesel additive contains enough lubricity improver to exceed engine manufacturers, U.S., European and refiner specifications.

Stay tuned.

Wish I could give you and the other CRS members a discount. However, we do not sell the fuel, just ValvTect Marine Fuel additives to fuel distributors to ungrade automotive fuel to ValvTect Marine Fuel specifications. I have a 500DA which consumes a lot of diesel, so I am also interested in a discount. If I figure out how to get a discount to CSR members (including me) I'll let you know ASAP.

Best regards,
Skipper Ness (Jerry Nessenson)

Thanks, Jerry, for your reply. I'm really interested in this as we have been thinking for quite some time of stepping up into a diesel boat.

Best regards,
Frank
