Greetings all,
I'm taking delivery tomorrow on my first Sea Ray!
We purchased a 2008 220 Sundeck. I have two novice questions...will I be able to tow with a Toyota 4Runner? Will the hole-shot be sufficient with the 5.0/260hp engine.
Be gentle...it's too late to make changes. :smt001

Welcome to community. I don't think you will have a problem with either. Where are you located? Are there hills that you will need to tow through?

Welcome aboard. First off you may want to update your signature section with your boat and location information. Some users will not respond else you have that info there.

What is the towing capacity of a 4 runner?? Your going to need 7000lbs +- range for a 220 sundeck, trailer, fuel, extra stuff, etc.

Hole shot sufficient. Sufficient for what and how are you loaded on the boat. Pulling a 300lb skier with 8 people on the boat probably not :) Pulling a 150lb skier with 4 people sure.

Thanks. I'll update my info.
The towing capacity of the 4Runner is 5000lbs, so it sounds like it would be an issue. The only substantial hill would be yanking it out of the water, but that's rather important...

Nice boat! The 5.0 is fine for the 240, so you shouldn't have a problem with the 220.

Let us know when you take it out for a spin.

Steve,
Welcome to the board. I had 240DA and 5.0 with BIII was fine when not overloading the boat.

You will need to calculate the total weight of the boat with gear, fuel, etc. That number is what matters relative to your vehicle's rated towing capacity.

I tried towing my 2002 260DA with my 04 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer/5.4L Triton and HD towing package. The boat and trailer with fuel and gear aboard weighed around 8800 Lbs. I never ran it across the scale, becuase I did nto want to know the truth! The EB was rated at 8950 max towing capacity, and it was not a pleasant experience towing the boat. On the ramp was no problem, up or down--but 60MPH on the interstate was high adventure.
I do not tow anymore.

Be careful here. If you cause an accident towing in an overloaded condition the other guy's bottom feeder I mean lawyer will, I assume, have a field day.

Time to get that F 350 Powerstroke, Cummins equipped Dodge, or Chevy Duramax.
Then you can get a bigger boat, you see......

Yup. Towing when overloaded is um,risky. So step up,buy the Silverado 3500 with the Duramax and have no fear.(Spending other peoples money is so easy).

I tow my 220 Sundeck with an '07 Trailblazer and have 0 issues. It accelerates just fine with the I-6, breaks fantastic thanks to the 4-wheel trailer brakes, and handles great! I was a little worried about it because my Trailblazer is only rated to tow 6000 lbs. and the boat alone is 4100 but everything is OK.

Actually I watch the other 'trucks' have a much tougher time yanking smaller boats out of the water (most likley due to no weight in the bed); they love to spin those tires and look 'cool'. Whatever....

Good luck and enjoy your new toy! Shame that it's soo late in the boating season (unless you are from the south)!

Congratulations on your new boat!! That is so exciting and I can tell you can't wait. Who can blame you? you bought a beautiful SeaRay:) Here's to good weather and fair winds and safe returns for your maiden voyage today.:smt038

Thank You!
The dealer told me Sea Ray owners are a very special group...I thought it was part of his pitch. Thoughtful responses to my question, and welcoming comments have made a believer out of me.

Your dealer is correct. SeaRay ownership is very special. I have seen a lot of other boats that are no where near our quality of fit & finish. Just plain cheep looking. My father has a carver and I think it's a POS!

Thank You!

Congrats on the new boat. I boat an 07 220 last year and have loved every minute of it. The boat has more than enough power out of the hole-shot. I've had six adults and two kids and could tow no problem. As for the 4-Runner...your cutting it close but keep your distance and you'll be fine.

Thank You!

Wait 'till you meet Gary
