Boat Info
Laguna 23 Cuddy Cabin 1991
Engines
2x135 Blackmax
Hi Sea Ray Club members,
I have just joined this great community. I have bought a 1991 Laguna 23 Cuddy Cabin a few days ago :smt001. Although dated, the boat looks like new, because she has not been used for almost 16 years. Engines are the original ones (2x135 Blackmax) and have only 250 hours. I come from a Laguna 21 WA, that I enjoyed with full satisfaction since 2002 and sold a week ago:smt089; she was a great boat and I could change that only with the bigger sister.
I did not test my new Laguna 23 in water; if there is anybody who can provide me with some recommendation or has previous experience with this boat, that will be very welcome.

Can't help with your question, but welcome aboard!

Greetings to Italy

Ciao Paulo-
I'm sure the members here would be interested in hearing more about Boating in Italy. Post a few pics and give us an update on your new boat.
My wife and I have made a number of trips to Europe and admired the boating at every marina we passed (and missed our own boat when we looked at the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean). We Went to Northern Italy and Croatia last year and envied all the islands and the boating paradise you all have over there. We're looking forward to a trip again this summer.

Re: Greetings to Italy

Hi Deepstar,
boating in Italy is becoming more popular than in the past, that is normal for a Country with more than 2,000 miles of coast and many islands. However, marinas (most private, some public) are not so frequent, especially in the South, and are also quite expensive. This implies that during Summer the most attractive destinations are overcrowded and mooring and landing is nearly impossible, unless you have planned your cruise and booked docking in great advance (if you take a charter that whould be easier as brokers will assist you). Fortunately these problems are limited to July and August only.
I have a docking place in the Marina di Nettuno (nearby Anzio, 30 miles from Rome: www.marinadinettuno.it) where I leave my boat for 11 months a year. It is a quite expensive marina but can be rached in 1 hour from Rome. There are some wanderful islands 40 miles South (Arcipelago Pontino with Ponza, Palmarola & Zannone) that are very popular in Italy but less popular abroad. It is also possible to cruise to more Southern islands like Capri, or even Eolie. So, Marina di Nettuno is in my opinion a strategic and nice place.
I am the owner of SeaRay Lagunas since 1990s; I have just changed my previous Laguna 21 walkaround for a 1992 Laguna 23 cuddy cabin with only 4 seasons (the two MERC 135 engines have less than 250 hours and the boat looks brand new). I love this type of boats as they are very well suited for fishing, that is my favourite sport. Since the boat has been kept recovered indoor for almost 15 years (but has been originally winterized and wrapped with plastic), now I have to check alsmost everything before hauling it again. I will post some pictures of the boat asap.
By the way, my best wishes,
Paolo

Welcome from the West Coast

Interesting Paolo- Sounds like fun. Drop us a note if you ever get out the U.S. West Coast way. We'll take you out and show you some Southern California Boating around Catalina Island (picture). We have lots of Coast but few (expensive) marinas.

Fortunately our 28 ft. Sundancer still fits on a trailer, stored just a few hundred yards from the launch ramp. It's an quick launch and certainly saves $$ for a slip, and lots of maintenance. Weather is good most of the year here too, so no winterization needed (sorry easterners!). Fishing is great.

Re: Welcome from the West Coast

I have been in Southern California long time ago (summer 1982) and I spent there a couple of weeks moving by car along the coast (I had to go to La Jolla University for a Congress). Great places and wanderful atmosphere. Unfortunately, not so close to Italy. I have been thinking of coming again, the next time possibly reaching the very Southern California (Cabo San Lucas) to spend some time fishing.
I will keep you posted in case and please, do not hesitate to drop me a note for your next visit to IT.

Welcome aboard Paolo,

Greetings from the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. Been to Rome a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed each visit. I lived in Heidelberg, Germany for 9 years before moving to the bay area. I would drive through Switzerland then down the Italian coast from Genova. Unbelievably scenic. I would love to cruise the Mediterranean in my own boat.

The season is just getting underway here. Have been on 2 cruises already this season both to the Baltimore Inner Harbor. Enjoy the water.

This is a link to my marina. http://mygnba.org I am also the webmaster for the site.

What Paolo says is quite true. We have several enchanted islands in the Mediterranean Italian sea. Pity is difficult to spend your summer hopping from one to another…marinas are way too few and crowded in july to mid-august. This means that you have to book your slip in advance as if it was an hotel room :smt013 … thus boaters tend to spend 15 or more days in the same place… not the kind of boating experience I like.
I prefer to cruise from one place to another. The situation is better on the Adriatic sea were you can find more marinas and even sail to Croatia’s coast that is scattered with thousand beautiful islands.
Last year the situation was a different and I saw so fewer boats around because of the crisis…it was then easier to spend some days in my preferred islands south of Anzio.
The island I love the most since I was a baby, is Ponza.

Paolo, my SR is in Nettuno also!!!! She is now at the yard for the complete refurbishment… hopefully she will soon be floating again at slip E-21 . See you there for the mandatory cold beer together …. I wonder if we could actually plan a CSR rendezvous here!! You smart guys are all invited!!!

Hi Hans,
I have been working in Heidelberg too for a couple of years (1986-87) at EMBL (Europena Molecular Biology Laboratory in Meyerhoff Strasse). I spent there a great time; the town is beautiful, people very friendlyand work in that lab was fantastic.
Congratulation for your very beautiful boat, and please send me a note if you plan to visit my places. Best wishes

Hi Pietro,
great to hear that we are neighbors at Marina di Nettuno. My slip is # 42 at the new west side basin. Now it is free, but I hope that it will be soon occupied by my "new" Laguna.
Please, don't make compliments with me if you need some help with refurbishing your SR, and get ready with some chapaigne (additional to te mandatorty bear) for the 2010 launch of our boats.
See you in Marina di Nettuno, and possibly have cruise together to Ponza this summer.
Best wishes!
Paolo

I was living in Gauangelloch up by Gaiberg when you were in Heidelberg.

I was born in Germany and moved to the United States when I was 7 years old. In the late 70's I had the opportunity to move back to Germany for a few years and did. Nineteen years later we moved back to the US. Lived in places like Nuremberg, Langen, Giessen, Heilbrunn, and Heidelberg (Gauangelloch). Raised my children in Heidelberg. Kids are now successful adults living in various parts of the states. The experience of living in Europe was a once in a life time opportunity. So happy we did that. My wife, I and children all are multilingual.

We had friends that lived in Padova who we visited often. Enjoyed going into Venice many times. Also travelled to Mykonos every spring. Another place I would love to have my boat.

Let me know if your travels bring you to Baltimore. My signature picture was taken in the Baltimore Inner Harbor.

Thank you Hans for the kind words, and congratulation for the beautiful "La Dolce Vita" (great choice for the boat's name too). I will surely keep you posted in case I will be in Baltimore, and please send me a note in case you will move to Rome. Best wishes!
