Alright, I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not, but here goes. I've purchased the new Fusion MS-IP700i stereo, Fusion 5 channel amp and wired remote. The question I have is how do I run the cable from the starboard radar arch to the dash area just adjacant to the companioway below decks. My boat is a 1994 440 Sundancer. There is currently a Clarion XMD3 in this location and it's wired remote in the radar arch. I'm also wondering how to access the area that is the dash from behind or below? If its a huge deal, I'll probably end up hiring somebody to do the installation, however I'd like to try this myself.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you read the manuals? I bought the stereo as a "weekend project" while at anchor. I wanted to match up with the new e125s that I had installed over the winter and wanted to take advantage of full control of the iPad from the cockpit. I've installed car and boat stereos before, so I thought, "how hard could it be"?

My assessment from the manuals was that it was time to pull out the Visa and pay someone to install. The complexity was really with the networking with the MFDs.

I am am very happy with the stereo. It's a great unit.

Kalee, if you remove the wired remote , remove the remote and tape the new remote wire securely to the old remote wire and use it as a snake, to pull the new wire to the dash .you should be able to access the wiring after you remove the old head unit .

Yes, I think that is the direction I'm going. Probably save a few skinned knuckles, swear words, etc. if I just pay someone! I'm looking forward to hearing it!

All of those wires are most likely wire-tied in place. While it is a great idea, good luck with it. You won't skin any knuckles if you get out your wallet.

how does the guy you pay do it then? Fish sticks?

I have used them with success also. running wires from the salon to the bridge. it's fun working on the boat if you can stay out of the emergency room doing it. Good luck keep us posted

But seriously, if you run into some trouble there is a local guy that can come out and do it for you. If you are unfamiliar with where to go for certain services (or who to call) feel free to PM me and I can hopefully provide some good information. I can tell you who to stay away from mostly!

Thanks Ken. I'm not 100% certain that It's going to be done correctly. I will definitely PM you for some names if my guy screws it up! I'm having the bottom painted right now and the yard said they could do the stereo... We'll see!

I installed my IP-700 in my salon and skipped the wired remote. I use my iPad and the fusion app to control the unit. It works awesome and really impresses your friends. You need to buy a wireless router and when you power it and connect it to the head unit it will create it's own network that your iPad will "see". I can control most functions from the iPad. I then have an old iTouch that has my playlists in it and I just plug that in and let it run.

Let me know if you need help setting that up.

Looking at a new Fusion tomorrow for the wife........mini van era is over, thankfully.

Thanks Shawn. I'll look you up if I get stumped! (Probability high!)

Greetings from a long lurking newbie who finally registered!

My Clarion CMD4 display has gone out and I'm ready to upgrade. I'm considering the Clarion M502 with either the MW1 or MF1 remotes or the Fusion MS-RA205 with the MS-NRX200i remote. Kind of leaning towards the Fusion right now. Would love to hear the good, bad and ugly on either of these units from anyone.

I've never used the CD player or changer on my boat so don't need that functionality and prefer not to have a flip open unit after the current Clarion display failed. I've been primary using my Ipod in the AUX in to date but getting tired of managing playlists so plan on hooking up the Sirius this time around. Planning on changing out the AUX in outlet to either a USB or dual USB/AUX. I also like the added feature of bluetooth for Pandora streaming and phone control of the stereo. Any input on the Bluetooth range you are getting on either of the units. Are you getting enough range to sit on the dock and bluetooth control?

Thanks in advance. Let me know if you think it's better to start a new thread on this subject. I have literally read every single thread on Clarion, Fusion, etc. on the forum. :)

Do you have DIN sized hole to fill in once you remove the Clarion unit? Why not go back in with a Fusion IP600?

Hi Jim,

Good point, the IP600 would be a nice fit into the existing. Do you have this unit? My reluctance would be the potential of future issues with that flip cover, especially if it was being opened and closed frequently to remove the IPOD...unless i were to leave the IPOD in there permanently I suppose. The flip down cover of the CMD4 and of the CMD8 & CMD9 were part of the reason I was ruling out these models plus Clarion also seems to be a bit slow on the new technology. I'm also planning on having the multi CD changer removed as well since I'm told its not compatible with the new systems. So l will be left with an even larger hole in the panel that will need to be plated there. Was trying to figure out a creative use of that space as well. :)

I HATE THE M502 WITH A PASSION! It is the dumbest head unit I have ever used. It sounds great and works great when streaming music from the iPhone or iPad. However, the user interface is so screwed up it is unbelievable. The problem is the knob. There is only one knob on the whole unit. The knob can turn, tilt left right up and down and be pressed. That one knob does it all. The designer of the knob and person that wrote the software and menu system needs to be set on fire. I have literally spent 15 minutes trying to get a iPhone to sync with the unit because of the confusing menus. It takes a complicated sequence of presses, turns, tilts, more presses, tilts and turns just to change the fader settings. I read the reviews on the unit prior to purchasing and they all said the user interface was horrible. But I figured I was pretty good with that kind of stuff and wouldn't have a problem with it. Boy was I wrong. I have come so close to smashing that thing it's not even funny. At the time I bought it, it was the only unit with a wired remote and Bluetooth audio streaming on the market. Now there are other choices. The M302 looks like a better choice as it has buttons, lots of them. However, I am really interested in finding out more about the Polk Audio PA450UM. It looks like a nice unit, simple to operated and I like the fact that the part you operate is surface mount and the rest of the electronics are remote mountable. Seriously thinking of mounting the control panel on the wall of the companionway and freeing up the cabinet where everything is currently located so I can use it for storage.

If you still have your heart set on the M502, I still have the original packaging and will make you a GREAT deal on it.
