NEW ENGLAND ROPES / Anchor Lines or other brand? What anchor line do you recommend?

Re: NEW ENGLAND ROPES / Anchor Lines or other brand? What anchor line do you recommen

Has anyone heard of the brand "Wellington Marine" lines? A local discount store had 1/2" x 150 anchor line for $30. I looked them up and found this line for sale in many places for about $90, but I don't know if this stuff is any good.

I am hoping someone knows something about this brand

West Marine is way over priced. If you can buy the line online and you are sure that it is New England rope, buy it. Ask the customer service rep to send you a sample of his line (1 foot ) and then you can tell how it it measures up.

How does one do that? I am assuming that Wellington is not New England rope.

Wellington Marine is owned by the Lehigh Group (http://www.lehighgroup.com/about.htm . Wellington bought Hooven Allison back in '01, then Lehigh bought Wellington in '05. That's about all I've ever been able to find out about them, but I didn't dig too much.

I picked up some of their anchor rode at the start of last season, it's attached to a 10# anchor and about 10' of chain and it's held up well so far.

I also have some of their dock lines and a ski tow rope. Can't beat the prices, and I'm no rope expert but it looks just as good if not better than any of the WM branded stuff I had on the boat prior.

Thanks for the feedback - maybe I will try it - I already bought it but kept the receipt to return it if I found out anything negative about it.

I wasn't aware that Wellington made anchor line. However, they do make most of the water skis out there - many brands are actually just re-badged Wellington. I'm referring to recreational skis, not high end stuff.
