New boat prices

And hopefully that will be ending soon....
I hope you don’t mean the stock market gains ending! I just retired last year and I need the market to hold so I can afford my toys and buy some more.

However I just read the average P/E ratio of the S&P500 is 32x. Thats insane and isn’t sustainable. Canada’s market is also high, but not at that P/E level. So a pretty significant correction is coming. The inverted bond yield curve would predict a recession too. It doesn’t “feel” that way though. Employment rates are at all time highs.

All observations noted in this thread are true and the answer is the stock market.....Im sure you've heard that markets are hitting new record highs every day?

The boat market is aimed at educated folks who are well invested and continue taking HUGE gains in their investments be it equities, bonds, real estate etc. etc. etc. I think the reason we are so appalled is because we (CSR) are already boat owners and we, more than most, have a strong sense of the real values of our floating paradise! But make no mistake, it's all about the value of your investment portfolio. It's not disputable.
Man I wish I was investing in 1993 instead of wasting my time learning how to read and coloring

Unfortunately they don’t teach finances in high school. I was in my early 20s before the concept of money management and investing ever became a thought.

I was in my late 50s before the concept of money management became a thought. Prior to that i was pissing away every available dime on boats.
Yup…

Everyone tells me I’m in a good spot for 36 but it certainly doesn’t feel that way o_O

Lots of good memories though

Go NVDA, FB and a bunch of others. Stock market All time high. Hell savings accounts offer 5% these days

It never feels like enough. I never thought I would have my portfolio professionally managed. I have a masters in finance and an econ degree. But I have more money in my portfolio than I ever thought I'd have in my life (not trying to brag because I'm sure it pales in comparison to a lot of others on this site), and it still doesn't feel like enough.

I’m just happy I have no debt, doing my 3% match, make a little more than my costs, and I have a little money to put down on a house.

The idea of retiring at 65 and having a nice three bed on the water with a pool and a boat has kind of left my future plans. There is no there from here

I have no desire to retire, and I'm closing in on 59.

I had planned to retire at 55 and kept pushing the date back because I enjoyed my job. Finally retired at 67. That lasted 6 months and I went back to work teaching at a University for 8 years. Work gives you a sense of purpose. I believe we are hard wired to work.

I don’t know about that. I know people that have never worked a day in their life and are completely happy with that.

At 59 I put together a massive spreadsheet summarizing my projected income from age 62-70. It also included break-even points for each year. I picked 67 because I figured then I could live comfortably.

My last 5 years at work proved more successful than expected, so when I retired I had a surplus. With that extra we are able to go on 2 extra cruises every year.

Had I known I would have retired sooner. I can't say how good retirement has been.

Now I don't have to TALK about boats....I can jump in one every day if I want to.

At 36 it looks like it's not possible, but you would be surprised. I never thought I could get to where I am at now back then. My early 30's I lost everything, only to do it over again at 40. Twenty years later I have way more then what I ever thought possible back then. I just don't have the pool anymore, don't want one either.

The problem is we all want it now and can't wait to get it.

Without elaboration, health plays a big part of “no there from here” at this point

We had a small boat show this weekend in town. Looked at a 2024 Chaparral 307 SSX. Really nice boat, and down right affordable at the boat show price of only $230K. That's a bit less than twice the MSRP on my boat new and 3 times what I paid for it. But in today's terms, it is actually a good deal. I love the twin Simrad touch screens. It may well be my next boat, but not this year.
