Just curious....I was speaking with a MM salesman last night who said that he was on his way down to Florida to the Yacht expo and that he was scheduled to take a ride on the NEW 55 DA.....anyone see this one yet?

Here's a rendition of it that from the invitation. It is supposed to be unveiled tonight.

Call me paranoid, but the hull side vertical ports just make me nervous. Many times we pulled the 420 into a fixed (non floating) transient slip or bulkhead mooring and I had to affix my fenders horizontally to protect the hull sides from pilings. In a crowded marina on a busy weekend you may not have the luxury of moving fore and aft a lot to geat away from a fender against your port windows, and I would be awful concerned about having to rest a fender against those pretty hull side ports....but again, call me paranoid.
Paranoia, case in point: We had 30 knots sustained this morning so first thing I was at the marina putting additional lines on the derelict (last registered in 1994) POS ragbote next to Truly Blessed II. When I heard the wind howling I could not go back to sleep worrying that the damned thing was going to break loose and damage my boat. [rant off]
now back to our regularly scheduled blogging about big new Sundancers :)

I made a set of Small Fender boards that I carry when we transient...I have large boards for the home dock when the East winds blow in high tides....If you are wintering in water, you may want to consider a set of fender boards...

I was talking to my neighbor this morning about this boat - he was down in Florida for the Sea Ray show and got to go out on this. If I recall, he said it was well over 3-million...You ask me - that's crazy for that boat. Yes, it might be nice - but you can get a lot of other nice boats for 1/2 that price... The first one was sold as well to a Wisconsin person....delivery isn't till 2008 at earliest!!

Anyone near Reefpoint marina in Racine, WI, can check out a new 55DA in the spring. A guy from the marina flew down the the Miami boat show a snatched one up....I'm sure he paid a premium price for it. My dealer said that the new 55's are already sold out for the 2007 model year.

I just got my power and motor yacht mag in. In the middle was a pull out flyer. You know why these 55's are so hot? They have their own rotating carousel seating!!! Not only do you go up and down to get sea sick, you now get to go around and around!!! :smt043 And you thought paying 2x the price was getting sick!!! :smt043

Here is a good article I just found on the new 55DA

USA. World premier for Sea Ray 55 Sundancer at Miami International Boat Show
Thursday, 25 January 2007
When it comes to handling finesse and stunning good looks, it doesn't get much sweeter than Sea Ray's all-new 55 Sundancer. Edgy and elegant. Sleek and sturdy. The 55's sumptuous interior belies its gritty power and agility.
This mighty, but sophisticated addition to Sea Ray’s already impressive yacht fleet was first unveiled to select dealers and special Sea Ray owners at the December Sea Ray Yacht Expo in Merritt Island, Fla. It will officially celebrate its world premiere at a press conference on Feb. 14 – Valentine’s Day – during the 2007 Miami International Boat Show. “What’s not to be loved? It's part prom queen, part big-time bruiser," said Rob Noyes, vice president of marketing for Sea Ray. "The all-new 55 Sundancer delivers the styling that our customers have come to expect, but you can't dismiss her sturdiness. She's rugged."

Arguably, the most attractive yacht for high-performance addicts, the 2007 55 Sundancer features a full-beam master stateroom, customizable cockpit entertainment carousel seating, and a stunning array of high-tech instrumentation and electronics.

Adopting a fundamentally different design approach, the 55 Sundancer is all about form, function and harmonious flow. Uncluttered and intuitive, its airy layout is ideally suited for a variety of outings.

Powered by T-MAN 800 or 900 CR diesel inboard, v-drive engines – the 55 Sundancer brings a new level of performance to the water mix. Standard bow and stern thrusters ensure that handling is compliant and obedient. Technologically advanced electronics make navigating uncomplicated – in fact, almost effortless. The diesel inboards are controlled by fly-by-wire, feather-light, digital throttle and shift levers. Two large instrument panels help you plot your course. The resplendent control display is bright and accessible. It's a modern day maritime marvel.

Some of the most distinctive new features include oversized, color-matched picture windows, fully-adjustable queen-size bed with magic-massage-fingers, hardwood floors, cedar-lined closets, touch-pad wall switches, large skylights, hideaway entertainment center and a top-of-the-line, surround-sound audio system.

From the galley to the salon and the cockpit to the large multiple staterooms, Sea Ray's 55 Sundancer has upped the ante by producing a sleek, free flowing, tightly integrated, finely-finished seaworthy vessel. The designers pushed the limits when developing this refined American beauty. It's bound to become a big favorite. New owners will just have to get comfortable drawing slack-jawed stares.

Along with free membership in the Sea Ray Owners Club™, there’s a menu of appealing optional items – such as a Crew’s Quarters, DSS Satellite HDTV system, a transom passerelle system and a sunpad electronic conversion of the aft cockpit – that make it possible to personalize the 55 Sundancer to fit individual needs and preferences. For those who are ready to take yachting to the most exclusive level of style, performance and comfort, the new 55 Sundancer from Sea Ray is the ideal choice.

I am sure the boys over at Boattest.com are drooling to get there hands on one to see how she does. The lines on the 55 are very simular to the 680 and that is one fantastic yacht. But she had better be if SR is going to compete with what's out there. Pershing, Ferretti, Sunseeker all have some awesome models out this year.

This Months Power & Motoryacht has the new 55DA on the cover....didn't read the article yet...it's in the library...Looks Sweet...
