new 340 floor

Wow that looks really good! Is there no storage below the floor? And your lighting also looks great, are you using all LEDs?
Here's the pictures of the corners and the hatch.

This is exactly what I have been wanting to do with my '05 340. It looks great. Did you do the work on your own or did you have a contractor do it?. Any specifics regarding the rip out of carpet and installation of vinyl would be appreciated. You can send me details to my email address art bednarczykdavid@bellsouth.net. Are you interested in a full paid vacation to South Carolina to do this on my boat? Interested in additional details.

^^^he was a commercial floor installer. my guess is he took the hatch out and laid the first piece in and ran a knife along the dege giving him the exact piece to pu on the floor, the middle piece would be easy as would the holly strips. the last piece would be the difficult one unless he used a straight edge to keep the vinyl piece exactly true. this is a guess from a salty carpenter but there are a couple ways to get it right. whatever way he used, it worked beautifully.

And that is exactly what I did!
The key was making the new hatch fit with the same gap that I wanted the floor to have. This way there would be no overhang of the vinyl on the hatch or around the opening.
It's been down a couple of months now and I can't say enough about it. We love it!

Strong work. I love the look and I'm toying with the idea for mine but I would have to smooth the floor with TONS of sanding and filler first.

Awesome job John!

And I can say it does look better in person, we're only a few slips a part. He did an amazing job!

Nice job...can you tell me the colors you used for the base and strip. How did you cut holly filler to be perfect? Do you have an in-process pics showing the glue process and what type of glue was used? I assumed you used a notched trowel. How smooth does your floor need to be?
Thanks for the info.

BTW, if you need to remove the floor, how hard would it be?

I'll get you the colors later. The holly filler comes pre-cut in 4mm width. it's like a piece of spaghetti. I used a pressure sensitive glue that is made by the same manufacturer, it can be put down dry or wet. I used a combination of both. The floor must be smooth, real smooth. That's where all the labor comes in. Under your carpet is a rolling mess, that's why sea ray used carpet. It hides all the nasty bumps.

So how did you prep your floor? Instructions say to remove all paint. Is this a professional install contractor only or can a competent person do it? I enjoy a challenge....done lots of tile projects but nothing in laminate like this.
Thanks,
Ed

I first ripped out the glued and stapled carpet. Fun! I next took a belt sander and knocked down the high spots and cleaned up the floor. From there I made 2 new hatches out of 3/4 marine plywood. You will have to make new hatches when you do the job because of the sloppy fit after the carpet is ripped out. You need to get the hatches level with the floor.
I leveled the floor by troweling on duraglass (waterproof auto body filler) and then belt sanding. I used a total of 2 gallons.
Maybe I'll make a video when I go to the boat and walk you through the whole process.

I've seen the floor mess SR hides under the carpet. Belt sanding made your floor flat enough (after duraglass) ...wasn't too wavy?

video would be great explaining the glue process too and how you did the edges. Looks like the glue is good for 2 hours so I guess you would do the main areas and come back for the edges later?

How about you name a price and take a trip over to CT to do mine?...LOL. I've read through the thread and thought there was no way I would be able to replicate what you did so I've decided to live with the carpet.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Well if your prepared to travel, mines just a little water crossing
