I know the info was out on SRO ( I think ) Someone had a source for parts in Lebanon, PA. I need the control board for mine and of course I did not print the info before. Can anyone help?

Walt,

I moved this topic to the Sports Cruisers section hopefully will get more views than in the Who's Who topic.

Wes,
Thanks for moving it. I will get used to this format soon.

walt,

ask another user named Ron (rondds). He is a packrat and has most of the info on the quicksilver genny's....

Walt, Quicksilver generators are made by "GENERAC". I got expert help from the dealer below. Parts are available but expensive!

Thanks for the information. I have the info on the genset, manuals, parts cross reference numbers etc. Someone on one of the boards had a source for parts in Lebanon, PA. Because I live within easy driving distance from there I was hopeing for the name. I did try searching both boatered and boatus sites and found nothing so it thought it was on SRO.

cant really tell from your avatar but it looks like your 340 is vintage late 80s, early 90s??? if so and you have a Quicksilver 5.5 - 7.5 series, you have a nissan engine coupled with a generac generator. the engine was used in the early to late 80s generation nissan march and nissan micra, a tiny little car sold only in europe. it is a 987cc engine. i contacted warshauser electric and they were very nice. but they wanted $90 for spark plug wires and $27 for the belt. i bought wires for a 1985 nissan pulsar with a 1.6L engine (i picked this car b/c it is the smallest engine nissan put in any car sold in america in the 80s). each wire measures about 1 inch longer and they perform admirably. cost = $23 at autozone. i took the belt into RS Strauss auto and the gal matched it up to one she found on the wall of belts in the back. cost = $7. granted, certain components (heat exchanger, control panels etc.) cannot be had at auto parts stores, but my philosophy is to save getting ripped off the occasion when you have NO OTHER CHOICE.

btw, this is a great little engine that has been tried and true and proven for more than a decade in europe. it's a shame it is so difficult to get parts for it and that mercruiser has washed its hands of their product. not sure what went wrong there, but talk about abandoning your customers!

Thanks for the info, I remember you posting it on SRO. The boat is an 89 340 DA so it is the same gen as yours. I have the control board in hand now (on the boat) and now have the current generac part number on the box. I'll make certain to add that to this post after this weekend to help others.

Walt, I actually had to replace the control board on my 7.5 KW unit this year. I found the best price and service here

http://www.partsfortechs.com/asapcart/

I talked to Dennis there and he could not have been more helpful. You can either send you old board to them for repair or you can buy a brand new board.

Although it's more money, I suggest you buy the new board. It seems that there was an inherent weakness in the older boards that has been fixed in the updated boards

Good luck[/url]

The Generac part #93642 is the correct board for all quicksilver generators ( gas or diesel). Thanks to all who answered. Hopefully we can keep the info this time around!

hi guys
how do you know when a board is shot? does that control voltage or how the engine runs? out of curiousity, how much does a NEW board run? mine is a 1989 6.5kw.
thanks!

ps: i wrote that part number down on my boat "cheat sheet" with all the other part numbers (filters, plugs, engine SNs, starter, etc.) i never leave home without it.

The board control the engine. A bad board will not allow the engine to function. It controls the fuel pump, and RPM I know it does more but I am still learning

Thanks alot fellows.

I am a brand new SR owner, 1994 400 EC. The 7.5 QS generator starts but does not continue running. I need to fix it before I try running it home which 180 miles away.(From Houston to Lafayette, LA.) I am trying to find a mechanic to take time to look at it. No luck yet.

I did not realize that the unit was discontinued when I bought the boat. I have not had a chance to operate the boat yet.

Can anyone suggest what part(s) to change?

Harris

The quicksilver/generac's were great generators. Too bad they quit making them.
If you have one that starts and shuts back down I would check the governor. The control board has an overspeed function. If the governor goes bad, the generator will start up and immediately overspeed and shut down. You can test this by disconnecting the throttle linkage and manually holding the speed down. If is continues to run, the governor is bad. If you follow the book, this symptom will have you replacing that very hard to get, board which will not fix the problem. Another thing to check is to have someone watch the boat's volmeter to see if it is producing power at startup. If it is not there is something wrong in the "backend".

The best source we have found for Quicksilver generator parts is Marr Bros

It was hit or miss with the Quicksilver line. Some owners swear by them others at them. The last one I worked on could of had a better life as a boat anchor. It had ingested water because it didn't have a vent loop and the owner cranked it to death.

If it starts and then shuts down, it can be a number of issues. Your generator has three mechanical safetys: 1) oil pressure 2) Engine Temp and 3) exhaust water temp. If for some reason one has tripped it will tell the circuit board to shutdown. It does this by providing a ground to the circuit board. The overspeed sensor is electronic and can also cause the control board to stop the engine.

The most common culprits of start/stops are the safetys, fuel pump or circuit board. The safetys and the fuel pump are easy to bypass. The hard part, at least in the DC area is getting somebody to work on it.

Kelly Generator in Maryland still stocks parts for your unit but you need to know the part number.

check the overheat sensor on the exhaust downpipe. This sensors wires stick out and have a tendency to goet bumped. If the two wires touch this will cause genny to start then immed. shut down after it does its diagnostics.

If anybody needs parts for a QS genny I am parting one out...lots of new to excellent parts. Motor has cracked head.

I'm bringing an old thread back to life!

I have the Quicksilver 7.5. When I winterized the genny it was running fine. I replaced the exhuast outlet over the winter along with the high exhuast switch and when I went to fire it up today it reeved real high and then shut off. I have fuel to the carb (although when i manually try and pump fuel into the carb via the throttle I cannot see or smell any fuel), rotor, distributor, points, plugs (except that they were real black in color and dry after trying to start, i have cleaned multiple times) all look good. Can this switch be causing it not to start? Even spraying starting fluid into the carb doesn't start it. It is almost like a combo of not getting spark or fuel. Can you bypass that switch?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

hello are you still parting out the qs genny I need the genny part call,me 732 245 6327 I live brick
