When I press the buttons only the forward light comes on. I checked the bulb and replaced it, still the aft light doesn't come on. When I replaced the aft light and got no results, I went back up to see wtf was going on and noticed the new light had a small hole on one of the ends so I replaced it again and it still doesn't work. What Gives?!?!?!?

I rechecked again yesterday with a volt meter and found that the bow side has 12-13 volts and the stern side has NO voltage at all. Any help would be appreciated. By the way I am referring to the light(s) that are mounted up top on the radar arch.:smt100

My 1992 270 Weekender has a 3 position toggle switch, center off. In the up position Port & Starb nav lights are on, along with the forhead mast light and the stern light and instrument lights. In the down position only the 2 masthead lamps are lit to serve as a riding light when at anchor. All Sea Rays I have seen, have the same setup. Newer models may be different.

Thanks Chris, but my boat has push buttons on the starboard side of the steering wheel that are clearly labeled "Nav and Anchor".

Will the stern light come on if you press the anchor light? Meaning, not the Nav light.

If it does, could be something wrong with the Nav switch. If it doesn't, sounds like a wire problem or connection problem at the light.

Where were you when you got -0- volts on the stern? If you were at the light and can test the voltage at the the switch you have isolated the problem to the wire between the switch and the stern light. One more step is that you need to isolate the problem to the positive or negative side of the wiring. Can you test negative side by getting 12 volts from another source and see if it will go back to the battery by testing the negative side with your meter beter the known power source and the negative side of the light swtich. You know should know which sode of the wiring the fault is on and can trace it back from there or just put a new marine wire in to go around the fault.

Also use your ohm meter to make sure the bulb is good.

Another place to check voltage is to remove the center access plate on the bottom side of the arch - there should be 3 wires (ground, nav, and anchor) - on my boat the wires from the fixture were "butt spliced" to the wiring from the switches, but it was possible to sneak the probe from the voltmeter inside them. A corroded or broken ground wire would be a good place to check...

Thanks Mr. Salt, btw I have a couple of shirts with "Cape May" on them that were given to me when we evacuated from Katrina. We started out by going to Orlando Fl for what we thought was gonna be a quick vacation. But on that Monday when we saw the levees had failed and saw our neighborhood on the news from a helicopter and how high the water had risen we said "Oh $hit ":smt089. So we trucked it up to Absecon, N.J. by the in laws and stayed for a month till we could find a temporary place to live while we started renovations. Any Hoot, thanks for the reply, I will go back out there today and pull the switch assembly out / apart and test from that point.

Oh, on your boat, do you happen to have a separate fuse for the stern light?

Now this seams a lot easier to start with, I think I'll check this first, Thanks a bunch.

The stern side does not come on at all, with either switch pressed.:smt013

Ya know, come to think of it, I checked around at the various fuse/breaker switches and didn't really pay attention to "separate" fuses. I guess I was really looking for the one that was pushed out. Since I didn't see any I quit looking at that scenario.

Honestly, I don't even know if my boat has a separate fuse:smt001. I'd have to look, too. Just a thought - before you get too involved.
