Nascar

I was raised going to the local short tracks watching late models and midgets. Been to a handful of nascar tracks plus Indy including IRP. Great memories but I think I slowly lost interest with all the tinkering with the rules and cars. I’ll still watch the Daytona 500 but nothing much after that.

Similar but not.

My first night in the Coca Cola field ended up being 4 guys is a Jeep Cherokee sleeping in our seats. Poured with rain the entire time. Saturday we're huddled under the raised rear hatch, like cows under a shade tree, drinking beer. While we're standing there this very large bubba in coach shorts and nothing else starts 'submarining'. There were deep tire ruts from vehicles in the soft field filled with muddy water. He'd back up and run and then dive into them head first like a slip-n-slide, going completely submerged. The crowd roared. And then at one point after he comes up from a run someone runs up to him and points out the overturned porta-potty right next to the rut he just went through. That was the end of that!
Been there.....4 guys in a Kenworth parts van....we showered in the self serve car wash at the end of the field....that hurt

I went to Indy 7 years in a row with a small group of great guys. We primitive camped in the coca cola field several of those years and shortened our lives considerably. First one I went to it was rained out and I literally never saw an Indy car go by. The remaining 6 times I think I have at least the combined memory of one good race. :) Good times.
The Coke Lot campground! We did that during the 100th Indy. We ended up renting our own Porta-Pottie which was a lifesaver. Great race until the end, which was won by mileage.

Been to COTA twice including last October. However, they need to figure out the traffic. Sundays are especially awful. We even tried the bus last year and still didn't get to downtown Austin until 8pm. We may rent an RV and just stay there this year.

I think it's a matter of timing. We have a spot in Lot H, behind the back straight. We get there early and park quickly. When the race ends we BOOGIE before the final parade lap. Last F1 we literally just drove out and was on I-130 within 15 minutes or less.

Speaking of COTA, I've done well over a hundred laps on that track. Gives you a completely different perspective of what the drivers are experiencing and dealing with. Our seats are in T15 and get to watch from T11-T16. I think NASCAR through that section is going to be epic because they don't mind trading paint, unlike F1.

Gratuitous picture. I'm #491

All racing is impressive to watch when really good drivers are behind the wheel. NASCAR is, for the most part, nothing different than IROC; the cars are over-regulated. It used to be the best in three areas - Manufacturer, Crew, Driver. How about the mandatory safety equipment, limited tire widths, limited fuel, and OEM Sheetmetal? That's it....
The experience at Daytona is much more than the race; it's a week of many things to see and do. Take a look at the Kentucky Derby..

So you F1 guys have someone to cheer for today. Jacques Villeneuve made the race. Big wreck on the backstretch on the last lap of the Xfinity race last night. Matt Snyder tore down a section of fence when flying upside down. Michael Jordan had a front row seat. That car was in pieces. Rear axle and the engine both completely separated from the car. The engine was maybe an eighth mile from the "car". Matt walked away.

Another flip…hmm. Makes for exciting crashes but I don’t want to see anyone get hurt. Lagano’s wind flap is busted as well.

Yeah, but they aren't as bad of wrecks as last year. Doesn't look like they are as stable as they were. Keselowski does this all of the time, way too aggressive when pushing ...

Buh Buh’s pissed.

:D:D
Too bad.

At least he finished ahead of some of the other toyota pansies.

It oughta be in the rules that if you want the position, toyota’s’ can be wrecked at will with no penalty.

Seeing any rice burner hit the wall literally makes me giggle. :p:p:p
