Definitely go for Black Dog Wharf in Vineyard Haven. Nice, relaxed atmosphere, but still a fun, beautiful place.
Also, Edgartown is the ideal place to grab a mooring (although reservations go quick I think).
Good luck!
OB is fine, have been going there for quite a few years and have met some really nice people that either I have rafted up to or vice versa. I have never had a problem. OB is a big party, which is fun, but can be a little noisy. The islands offer something for everyone. Really could use a drink, sitting on the dock at Nancy's right now! (blowing snow and 30deg. outside right now!)Ok, we will definitely avoid that situation!
Cutty Hunk is a great place to grab a mooring; sounds like Oak Bluffs is not.
I just checked Edgartown Harbormaster site and August is available right now. We'll be booking our stays this weekend; really excited to get back on the ocean.
Thanks all for the great tips, pointers and guidance.
In 2007 we logged nearly 500 miles during our 2 week trip; it was in late June and the weather was not very good. This time we're taking things easier, staying in fewer places longer, and going later in the season.
Cheers
Jeff
