So are you planning on hauling that 340 around or just pushing anything that gets in your way?

Chuck,

No plans to haul the boat. Thinking of getting a 5th wheel camper. Also, have considered offering my services to people to haul junk or tow their boats. With everyone downsizing to small cars, many people in this area are looking for people to haul their boats for them or make trips to junk yards to take their trash away.

Since you have an F350 you are actually limited to about 15000 lbs depending on your axle ratio on the regular hitch or about 18000 on a 5th wheel. The F450 is the only one which can go to 24600 lbs. Either way - nice truck - that 6.4 is a great motor!

I'm a GM guy, but I've always like the way those SuperDuty's look. Nice ride!

So, when are you gonna hop it up? There's a lot of power still left to tap into!

Could you let us know what kind of fuel mileage you are getting with your new diesel? We are looking for a diesel F-350 to haul our 260 DA but I've seen some large ranges for fuel mileage from 5 mpg to 20 mpg. Just trying to get an honest answer from a new owner.

Thanks,

Kendall

Nice truck. Good luck with it. Sure wish that Ford would get around to putting a diesel in the Navigator. Until then, I think I found my next vehicle. As much as 30 mpg on the highway and 24 in mixed driving. Not bad for a 5500 lbs SUV. Of course, this would be fine, too.

What does a 260 weigh?

I have owned several F350's in the past ten years. (all diesels), different motors as Ford made changes. My current truck has the 6 liter motor. I have found 12 mpg with dually's to be the number if you tow anything. I can get that to 16 mpg if I don't tow for a few weeks, but that is really driving conservatively (rare for me).

It's not a Ford (and it's much older), but for comparison:

With my '98 Sub, I get a bit over 20 on the highway/14 around town... unloaded.

Towing my 260DA, loaded up for a vacation (with 2 kids and all of their stuff), coolers and junk on top of the Sub, too, I get 10 on the highway.

A diesel really won't settle in to it's groove for a good 5K to 10K miles.

Unfotunately i had to use my dads truck this weekend to pull the boat up because i let a buddy borrow my Duramax to move into his new house. Anywho it's an 06' or 07 (Whichever has the 6.0 liter turd, i hate that specific engine not all powestrokes), pulling my 05' 260 i got 9.8 mpg. In my 3/4 ton Chevy I get about 13.5 towing for comparisons

Now... if that Ford F-350 had a Cummins in it...

I get 18 with my Dodge. Around town and highway. Never really tow much or of any distance to get a base number.

Same here with my Cummins 6.7 (I have an 07 2500) great motor. The built-in exhaust brake is a very nice feature. I'm holding out for the new '10 redesigned body style in a 3500.

Kendall,

I am getting on average about 13.5 MPG. its all because of the DPF that EPA mandated on all new diesels.

tdappleman,

You are correct if it was an ordinary F350. I have the F350 with the Tow Boss package which includes the F450 raer springs 4:30 gears which increased the towing capacity to 26.5k at least thats what the owners manual tells me as well as the ID plate on the inside of the door.

But does it float? How many gallons to the mile does she get? How many gallons of "pink" junk does it take to lay her up? Does her carpets get cancer and shed backing?
Whats the best wax for it? Fuel additives required? Come on give us the really important details!
