Must have's in a contract?

After the emotions settle down, I'd be suprised if they didn't call you in a couple of days to get you back in the store.

I was thinking the same thing

I second what Frank W et all have said above.

I remember when I was in negotiation, a similar dialogue with regards to " we have to trust each other, yadda yadda..." My reply was..... "I read the back of your contract, and if you really want this to be a trust-trust deal, then get a blank piece of paper out of your desk and we'll both trust each other on it".....things calmed down after that and the rest is history...

Keep looking, and don't discount used...a 1-2 even 3 year old used boat, will many times come with the extended warranties that the previous owner purchased prior to "Itis"

Good luck and keep us posted....

Well all of your guys help, saved me a lot of future grief. If this is how things went down with no problems yet, I can only imagine if there was an issue with the boat once I took possession. I'm relieved actually that this was flushed out early in the game. The sad thing is that this was a branch of the biggest sea ray dealer in the US. Anyway, I'm jumping back on the horse and checking out a few this weekend. Can't thank you guys enough.

Yes, this is a good thing. My experience with businesses that initially act unprofessional, unorganized, evasive and overall unpleasant and difficult, are that they only get worse to deal with and never better. Always best to avoid these types like the plague.

Turtletone,

I feel quite confident you will be a successful boat buyer. The ability to walk away before getting in too far is vital, and you clearly have that ability. Your statement to have all agreements put in writing showed clear thinking in a stressful situation, but your lack of hesitation to end the negotiations when they refused is wisdom. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well a very good day at another dealer. If you are a first time boat buyer, you really owe it to yourself to check out a few different dealers. Same company, different locations, different experience. Looks like I might be walking away with a 2003 280DA with more options at the same price as the failed deal 260DA. And this time with everything in writing. It's not final yet and we still have a little work to do but when I walked away today, I felt like I knew what I was doing and that makes all of the difference in the world. Can't thank Frank and all of the others enough for schooling me. It really makes a difference in how the boat buying experience goes. I will keep you posted and maybe have to change my signature.
