Is any body using a dedicated music server on their boats? If so can you let us know what you configuration looks like? Would also like to hear from any auto/marine install professionals as to what they are recommending.

Thanks in advance.

I've used a PC to stream from Windows from the PS3. I've used an Archos for the same thing, as well as a Roku. I tried a base with a remote for an iPod that connected to the head via RCA cables.

In the end, I've decided it is much easier for me to just use Sirius...

You are probably talking about something more sophisticated but, I love my simple IPOD setup with over 5000 songs on it. I have a remote at the helm.

I dont have a big enough boat to justify a music server, but I can comment on the music server I use at our lakehouse. It's called MPD, and its pretty snazzy. There are "remote control" clients for your Ipod/Mac/Iphone/Ipad that make it a breeze to queue up music. It will also stream music from Last.Fm which is a nice feature as well.

Google MPD, and take a look. It's opensource (free) but you will need to have some knowledge of Linux to get it running.
