Several times over the last ten years I have had clients (and a couple of former friends) chortle about collecting disability benefits from either private or public sources while they were able to play golf, tennis, and run businesses. In my own family I have one that I consider a complete disability fraud (albeit an accomplished professional whiner) and actually a couple others on the family kudzu vine that aspire to that lofty perch. It is nauseating for me to be in their company and unfortunately leads me to be sceptical of every disability designation...while I am sure there are those who are overqualified.
 
Come on now, I know, and I often feel suspicious of people claiming a benefit, but often there is an unseen issue. Diability insurance is bought for the profession the purchaser is in. A neurosurgeon may not be able to perform their craft, and collect disability from that, but might play sports or run a business and be well within their rights to do so. Not every one is a scam. MM

I understand that.
I blew out my lower back,, pinched nerves, only someone with the problem really understands the pain. I was treated like I was faking it.
I made another appointment with the doctor, explained to him the money I was loosing being off work,, and it changed his attitude 180*.
Lot's of fakers.

My wife's ex husband hurt his ankle a few years ago at work, had surgery and still claims he cannot work. He does not have any problem sitting around all day and walking several miles to pick up his daughter from school but says he cannot work at all, I mean nothing and is on all kinds of disability/welfare type programs. I agree he probably would have trouble with doing physically intense work but he can do *something* however he chooses not to because he does not have to. He does not even pay child support for his son. They live on the poorer side and his wife supports them for the most part other than the benefits he gets and he still wants more.

On the other hand, at a local Lowes store there is a woman working there and she is in a wheelchair and she has no legs but she still works the customer service and cash registers.
 
A stunning attractive girl with no arms or legs boards the train near our home every day and heads to work.
I have a friend in Santa Barbara with one arm that has a very good car repair shop.
If they can get up in the morning and go to work,,,,

How about the fat asses in the electric carts in about every large retailer you go into.

I couldn't believe he got away with this; he was competing in body building competitions, playing baseball, running and riding his bike, but couldn’t do his job as a fire prevention inspector? Crazy.

This part really bugs me. The medical docs give handicap status to the very folks that need the exersize, so retailers have 2 acres of handicap parking for people eating themselves to death. :smt021 MM
