Mid-90's 270 Sundancer Thread

I tell you what I carry.
Toolbox - full set.
Jump box.
Jumper Cables.
Spare belts.
Gear oil.
Motor oil.
Spill pads.

For the trailer -
Spare tire
Jack
Extra tie downs
Ratcheting straps
Extra bulbs/LEDs

Thank you. Unfortunately we don't have a trailer. I will make sure we have all these things. We ran out of gear oil once and used baby oil to get back.

Might be hi ps / high pressure. Not enough water or air flow. You may have sucked up something in the water intake. I had it once, went cruising for the day and everything was fine when I reconnected the power. There are other threads on here that tell about checking strainer and pump.

I don't have a manual for the AC can anyone tell me what high P5 means?

Replacement speakers clarion cm1622 speakers with sony xs-mp1621

Replaced clarion cm1622 speakers with sony xs-mp1621 speakers. Direct drop in for 1997 270 sundancer. Fit depth, hole, and even drilled screw holes.

Thanks Mike, Arm, and Duck. I like the JL setup you have Duck, I might go with that and an amp next year. Arm let us know when you post the write up on the whole system.

Hi, I just bought a 1995 Sea Ray 270 Sundancer. The previous owner kept the boat on a lift in a covered dock. He said that the AC would sometimes lose prime if the boat sits out of the water for long periods of time, due to evaporation. I keep the boat on a trailer. He said he'd use a funnel to put water into the thru hull fitting if it needed priming, and that would get the system started while out on the water. The million dollar question is...... Which thru hull fitting ìs the AC discharge??

Thanks for your help!

I have trailered my 270 for years and have never seen an instance where my AC pump lost prime. It may vary which one is the AC through hull due to the configuration of some boats. Mine is on the port side. Just look in the bilge and see which strainer goes through to The AC pump.

Thanks MM. Is the pump for the AC generally located at our near the AC unit at the foot of the aft cabin? I've never had to service a marine air unit before.

My pump is in the bilge on the port side between the water heater and generator. Just follow the water hoses from the strainer.

When my 270 is on a trailer I will loose prime all of the time. This is likely because I do not close the thru hull valve when I pull the boat out. In my case, when I go on plane at 20 mph for about 10 minutes, it self primes.

This year when I put the boat in it did not do this. All I did was take my hose and pump water backwards into the ac system.

This is also how I winterize the AC. I simply pump pink in backwards. works great, even in a cold winter like this year.

Interesting, as I have never closed the valve...

Could have something to do with the angle of the hose? I don't know.

In my case, just go on plane and the problem is solved.

Thanks everyone! I found the pump that feeds the AC, almost dead center right in front of the single engine. I also had my wife watch the water line at the AC condenser at the foot of the aft cabin while I tugged on various hoses in the engine compartment. On my 95 model, the AC discharge thru hull fitting is above the waterline and almost directly under the Waste pump out cap. I went ahead and charged it with water just to be safe, but I agree with the comment that plowing some water should also prime the pump. I just didn't want to be out overnight the first time on the boat with my wife and no AC..... It wouldn't be good for my health !

Thanks for all the input.

I have Water coming in the cabin under the stairs. I think its from the fresh water system as I just replaced the pump. My theory is that when I put the new pump in and now I have decent pressure that it caused a leak somewhere. It only comes in when the water system is on. Has anyone had this issue? Can I access that area under the mattress in the aft cabin? Does anyone know the routing of the pex going from the engine room to the head, head sink, and kitchen sink? Last question related I un-screwed all the screws in the carpet but it seems to be glued down is this the case or is it just stuck? I just dont want to rip it out if its going to cause a major issue. Thanks in advance for all reply s.

I just had same water issue in my 270. I had fixed 2 years ago came back to haunt me again. My float switch in ac/ shower sump quit. Replaced hole thing this time couldn't find float without ordering. Went to West marine picked up new sump. 20 minutes it was over .

As duckmnn said...Check the float switch in your shower sump. More than likely, your float switch is innop and the sump box is overflowing. Had this issue on my last boat. Woke up to 2-3" of water on the floor. Replaced the float and all was well.
