Mattress Pad

So - for those who did the memory foam, did you replace the existing mattress with memory foam then use the existing cover over the foam? Or did you add foam on top of your existing mattress?

On a 320, does the 4 inch memory foam fit in the mattress cover?[/QUOTE

I replaced the 6" original foam with 6" Memory foam and will be using the cover that came with the matress since my old cover and mattress was a 2 piece affair. I've never had much luck in adding toppers since they tend to shift.

3m adhesive spray can be used to glue the two pieces together. The can is not cheap, but lasts for a long time. Spray both pieces, let them tack up, then squeeze them together. I just line them up and roll over the pieces. When you are 6-3 and 260 lbs there is enough pressure.

Is the Serta pad that much better than the Highloft?

I just confirmed that using an electric knife ($7 at walmart) is the best way to cut these memory foam mattresses. Tried a couple different knives and razor blades. No dice. Electric knife went though it like butter!

does the full size fit the length on the 280 aft cabin bed? the full size pads I see are only 72" long and I think that bed is lomger than that.

I searched the forums and did not see anything, hopefully this is not a redundant post. We love everything about our 320, with the exception of the mattress. We sleep on the boat at least one weekend night from May - Sept. and a more comfortable mattress would be great. I am open to any ideas people have.

I am also wondering if anyone has ordered the "Royal European Custom Sea Ray Pad" from MarineMax, and if they have, was it an improvement. According to them, it adds about 2 inches of padding.
Mike I'm not sure if you ever went through with this purchase or not. But I just received my "premium mattress pad" from Marine Max boating center and it is complete garbage. I hope yours was better. I spent 174 dollars (on sale) and it's about as thick as a towel. Actually my towels are thicker than this "premium mattress pad"

We bought the queen size memory foam and cut it to fit the v-berth dimensions. We placed on top of the existing cushions and covered both the cushions and the memory foam with a fitted flannel queen size sheet. We topped that with another flat flannel sheet and a comforter. Turn the AC down to 68 degrees and enjoy some of the best sleep on the water.

Hello ziggy87

Yacht Outfitters specializes in custom fitted bedding for cruisers and yachts. Feel free to contact us if you're interested in a mattress pad for your 320DA. Our 'super soft' mattress pad is a favorite to add a level of comfort to your existing mattress. You can select the thickness in 1" increments and the outer 'shell' is professional grade mattress ticking fabric.
Stephen, What is the average thickness of your mattress pads? The one that I received is about the same thickness as a diaper. Actually thinner. I would think a "pad" meant that it has some amount of actual "padding" :smt021 I should have ordered it from you.

Sorry to hear about your new mattress pad - hopefully it can be returned. Our standard as seen on our website is a 2" foam pad in a medium firmness. I think we have a fairly good picture on the website but it would probably also be good for me to post a close up picture with a tape measure to avoid any questions on the thickness.

The 2" version seems to be the most widely selected and that's why I made it our "standard". We can actually make a mattress pad in any 1" increment from a variety of foams. The regular foam is available in Super Soft, Medium and Firm. We also have 2 1/2 LB and 5 LB memory foam. As with our other bedding, the mattress pad is custom-fitted and made to match the exact shape of your mattress. All of our mattress pads are also covered in a professional grade mattress ticking fabric that is 100% cotton. And I love to let people know that everything we make is proudly made in the USA. Feel free to contact me directly at info@yacht-outfitters.com if you have any other questions.

Did you order a custom made fitted sheet for your 340 or just a normal fitted Queen Sheet? I ask because of the significant price differential between the two and we have yet to overnight on the boat. I have laid down on the bed sevaral times and it is "quite firm" to say the least.

StephenOvalle,
I notice we have the same boat so I am I safe to assume you put one of your pads and fitted sheets on your boat? If so, how about posting a picture of your 320 bed with the pad?

I currently have our Venice 300 TC sheets aboard and can post pictures of the bed with sheets but I no longer have the pad on the boat. After testing different designs and foams I eventually removed the pad. I have a custom pillow-top mattress that came with the boat - I'm the second owner. I can send you pictures of the pad though. Are you looking for a close-up picture or just curious how it fits on the 320 bed? Do you have the original OEM mattress?

Stephen

We have a place near us in Toronto called Foamite. They will cut any foam to the shape of your bow. I haven't got a price from them yet (waiting for a survey). I can't imagine shipping is very cheap but it only takes a call or email.

Stephen, I waited a month to receive this "custom made premium waterproof mattress pad" and it arrived in 2 peices? When I asked why and questioned the quality of it, I received this reply..."
Hello Brian,

I heard back from my warehouse, and they have explained to me the reasoning behind the 2 piece Mattress pad. Apparently the starboard cushion in the conversation area does not leave adequate room under the back rest to make the cover in one piece, and have it fit your mattress without tearing. They accommodate for this by making it in 2 pieces for better coverage. According to Sea Ray specifications, it will fit your boat. I apologize, but I am not familiar with your specific boat to visualize what they are saying, but I am hoping you can? I do understand that you were not expecting a 2-piece mattress pad, but our website doesn’t indicate that it is indeed a 1-piece pad either.

I am disappointed to hear that you are not satisfied with the quality of the item as well. I reviewed our description on the website, and it does not appear to mislead as to what to expect when ordering the Waterproof Mattress Pad. It is 200TC, 100% cotton, and quilted. It does not specify any particular thickness of the quilting, just that it is quilted. We have used the same manufacturer for our bedding for some time now, and have not had any complaints. Due to this fact, we feel that they produce a quality product, and we stand behind it. I am sorry, it is stated on the website at the time of purchase that custom-made items are non-returnable/non-refundable" ......................................................................................................................................................

So there you have it. A so called mattress pad that arrived in a torn storage bag and in 2 peices that won't fit my cushions and I'm out almost 200.00. I like that they add it might tear if it was 1 peice :) Stephen, please send a picture of your product so I can see what a real mattress pad should look like. Here is a picture of mine. This is the actual pad and it's folded over so this is twice the thickness. Sad! The long time members here know that I'm a big fan of Marine Max and I always speak very highly of them, but this is just plain wrong. Brian

Bridog,
That sort of experience absolutely burns me and is very short sighted on the part of Marine Max! Obviously, they are not going to get support from members here. Maybe you should send them a link to this thread.

R.J. Dawg,
Thanks for the link. Ive been looking to add a mattress pad to the master berth and These guys are about half way between home and work. I will definitely check them out. Again - thanks!

Here's a picture showing the design of our mattress pad. It's intended to create a 'pillow top' effect for the standard OEM type mattresses. This particular picture is a mattress pad in the forward stateroom on a Sundancer. The pad is designed to lay over the mattress and then covered with sheets. We make the same style for the fold out bed in the Aft conversation area. I'm a little speechless regarding the response you received and the picture of the product. It's nothing like our mattress pad.
