Hiya

Seems like there is a leak or something in the seal for the vacuflush toilet In the master bathroom. I know this will wear out my vacuum
Generator pump as it keeps coming on to keep the vacuum up!! I have put surgical gloves on and felt all around the seal there not too sure what I should be looking for? The water slowly drains out then you hear a hissing sound. I have had this before when paper or something is stuck in there it's totally clear now but still has this leaking prob. Any ideas in what I need to change for the seal to hold? What a ****ty job litterally lol

This job is not really all that bad. We removed our toilet a few weeks ago quite easily, cleaned it all up and ordered new ball and seal kits from West Marine. Only our seal was shot, but I got both kits and I will will change them in the Spring. Best of luck with your crappy toilet.

I had a similar issue this year and seem to have solved it by doing a through cleaning and then a lubrication of the ball valve with this Teflon lube. MM

Rob there are some great suggestions here. If you have inspected your seal and felt nothing stuck then I would replace the seal... not a big job at all very simple... I contacted dometic directly and got the parts at no cost... I was able to pick them up though which will be a strain since your on the other half of the world. But if you do contact them and feel like picking them up let me know...

Hi guys, thanks so much for the advice! I took some vaseline, lubed up the seal really good and problem is fixed like you said it would be!! You guys really are a fountain of knowledge and fixes when it comes to all of this!!

Thanks so much for the help!

Or just keep a jar of Vaseline as it will do just as good a job...

...it will do just as good a job in the short term. In the long term the petroleum products may harm the seal causing more harm than good. My old manual stated not to use petroleum, but the new one's I saw did not. The Teflon gel is similar in price and only reason to use vaseline is you already have it. MM

It's just a temp fix while you wait for new seals to arrive in the mail.

We had a similar issue with our toilet. Noticed that there was a significant amount of mineral deposits on the surface of the ball. I turned off the head and water system and bled the water and suction from the system, poured in several ounces of white vinegar and let it stand overnight, following up with a gentle cleaning of the ball surface in the morning while working the foot lever back and forth. This solved the problem and the issue has not returned since.

Using the wrong toilet paper can also cause problems if one manages to somehow catch a sheet between the ball and seat and not notice it. I've found that the Kirkland Brand performs as well , if not better, as the more expensive specialty papers. Put a couple of sheets in a jar of water with a lid and shake it after a couple of minutes. If the paper doesn't break up, you're using the wrong stuff and increasing the likelihood of recurring tissue issues.

A tip given to me by the Vacuflush people in Seattle (Marine Sanitation Company) was when I was flushing the head, let the pedal snap up on its own, don't raise it gently. That snapping helps to keep the ball and seal clean of any debris, water deposits, etc. They also suggested I coat the seal with Vaseline.
