Good Day Fellas,

In the past I have replaced my deck speakers with regular automobile speakers, this year being no exception. It seems like these are better sounding and don't cost as much and last years before I find a real difference. I do understand that no real speaker is designed to be immersed into buckets of water.
My question to you is: Is there a real significant difference in "marine" speakers than automobile? What do you have on your deck ?:smt001

I have Clarion and from what I understand the difference is that the voice coils are "sealed" and the cone is weather resistant

I am getting ready to install a complete JL audio marine system. I am going to use 7.7 in the cockpit and 2 x 10inch subs in the cockpit. Marine speakers are made with salt spray and UV in mind. I chose JL as from everyone I've talked to can't say enough good things about them.

I had to make an adapter for the 7.7s as they are going in a 6x9 hole.

I use auto speakers in boat cockpit. I am in year six and still fine.

If you want any longevity you need to find speakers that have rubber surrounds, something other than paper cones, and stay away from pole mounted tweeters. The pole runs through the hole in cap/woofer cone and therefore exposes innards of speaker. Separates would be a good choice to avoid that problem.

The polk DB651s are your best bet for a great sounding, inexpensive, marinized speaker. They can be had for around $60 shipped.

I will second MM’s assessment of the Boss speakers. I wasn’t overly thrilled about forking over big $ for speakers. I bought that exact pair of Boss speakers for my 175 and have a small amp running them and they sound great. Good enough that we can hear them just fine swimming 20ft behind the boat. I paired them with a small 8” (auto) sub and the set up sounds good.

I’m sure there are better quality speakers out there but for our purpose these get the job done.

Da*n they all look good but I am looking for 8" to replace the existing ones with, tried the Boss and the polk, not finding 8" speakers just woofers.
I don't think you are going to find anything in full range speakers, 8' size, car or marine sold single/pair. Don't get too hung up. You may want to consider what Jason did with his 6x9 holes and a great pair of speakers. He can link you to his project where he did a great job making a custom mount. If you offer a photo of current location with speaker mounted we all can jump in and help you specifically.

Wow, thanks Hifi I am honored... Jeff, I'd be happy to help you out only cost you a few pictures and measurements!!!

I'll have to check this week, I know the cut out was big but now I have doubts on the actual size. I will let you know later today as the boat is about an hour away. I do appreciate the the replies, they are really helpful.

Jeff, let us know and take some pictures. They really do help. I'm sure that with all the great people here we can get you fixed up.
