Maretron DSM410 / J2K100 / J1939 Onan programming

Nice Tom. What was it in the end? The "Is Generator" Flag?
Three things to check -
  1. The Maretron J2K100 needs to request the hours so make sure in the setup that that is enabled.
  2. Align the instance across the devices.
  3. And as you say make sure the "Is Generator" is checked and remains checked after exiting the screen. I know I've checked that before but it did not save so go back to the page and verify it remains.

I am finally getting around to getting the Maretron J2k 100 installed to see the genny data. I have not reconnected the W5 wire on the NIM because I used the original smart craft harness. I am showing the data on the VV when I go into the Data list.

but I am only seeing the Frequency and volts on the Smartcraft display

Any ideas on how I get that info to populate on the Smartcraft window?

On the VV4, I selected the converter device, then Configuration. On that screen, there is an "Is Generator" box that needs to be either "Yes" or "Auto". Not sure if your newer VV has exactly the same menus.

@Jeremygavin
it looks to me like you have 2 different instances of the generator
If i am reading it correctly one is instance [0] and the other is [10]
think they need to be the same.
And agreed w/what @alnav says above. isGenerator needs to be yes.

I have the “Is generator” set to yes And it is set to instant 10 in that field above

Good catch, I didn’t notice that last night when I was trying to get it to work. Instant 10 is information coming off the J2K100. I Think the engines are instant 0. Maybe the VesselView is not seeing the information from the J2K100.

It seems everything set to Instance 10 isn't displaying on the VV operating screen but is displaying on the VV data screen. So, the instance 10 data is available. It seems then the fields on the operating screen need to be edited.

Do you know how to Edit the fields on the operating screen?

On the VV7 I do but in foreign territory on yours.
On the menu strip on the bottom of the VV7 pull up the double gear icon and change/edit the fields.

If you have the capability to set up the J2K100 (using a DSM410) I would set all of the generator's instances to 3 and then go back to the VV and your other displays and adjust all to 3 for all of the data fields. It appears they used 0 for the AC power data as nothing else on the boat would be transmitting / monitoring those fields.

Like @ttmott suggest, i would make all the instance numbers the same

I wont be down to the boat til Sunday now, but if you still are having issues I will dig it up on my vv703. I'm a bit rusty having not been out on the boat all winter.

As a follow up to this I finally figured out how to get the generator info to come up on the Mercury Smartcraft screen.
To get to the page that lets you select where the genny info comes from on the Mercury page follow this: gear icon upper left on main Simrad page/Network/Sources/Advanced/ and that brings you to the Data source selection page. On that page scroll down to Generator/1/ and it lists the generator data. Click on each one and in my case I select the J2K100 check box. After that it shows my genny data except hours which is fine because I have the hours down in the salon on the Onan display.

How do you get the 2 column box up on the left?
Top right corner of the Mercury page is a gray tab with 3 lines on it. Tap that and it brings up options for Bar 1 and Bar 2. I have Bar 1 set up to my starboard engine info under the cruise tab and I have Bar 2 set up for my port engine info under the general tab. I used to have the engine hours on this tab but now that I have Genny data I have the Genny oil pressure and Temp displayed on the bottom 2 fields so I can see it all the time and don’t have to open the Genny tab on the left sidebar.

@Jeremygavin
Thank you! Found the check box for bar 2 and added it. I was so excited I forgot to take a pic! Ha. Will add one next week, but thank you. I added my gearbox press and temp.

That’s great, glad I could help. It was a nice running around this weekend knowing I had oil pressure and temps were good on my generator.

You only added one component? The Maretron device and tied it into the N2K from there?

Correct. I added the Maretron j2k100 under the helm where the harness came into the Smartcraft hub. That way I didn’t have to tie the W5 wire back together. I did cut the W-2 To convert the Nim.
