I have a Mercruiser 350 MPI on a 2007 260DA. Was coming into port last weekend and stalled as I entered no wake zone. Made it back to slip and thought nothing of it. This weekend she won’t start unless I give some gas in neutral and the she stalls again. Thinking it was IAC. Asked marina mechanic to replace IAC. Just got the call that risers and manifolds need replacement because there is water in the cylinders. Estimated parts are $4900 and waiting on labor estimate which I expect to be a few hours at $125/hr.

Is this price within range? How does water get in? Never dealt with this before?
Thanks for comments!

Crazy high, manifolds and risers are about $1500 per engine for parts. Look the prices up yourself.

Very high. I’m local to you and I could do it for less than half using all Mercruiser OEM parts!

Look up your own Mercruiser parts costs at Nuwave Marine for your own information.

Take those part numbers and punch them into Nuwave Marine or Michigan Motorz websites you get an idea on prices.

Most times when you Replace manifolds and elbows you can reuse the 6” risers with a little clean up.

Whats up with the replacement of all the pulleys, raw water pump, sensors? do they need to be changed.

Yeah that's more than just risers/manifolds. It says pump is leaking. The riser manifold parts are listed at $2500 +/-.

How capable are you?
Can you change a flat tire?
If you can change a flat tire, you can replace manifolds and elbows all on your own.

The sea water pump is just a little more difficult, because you need to reach down lower.

These are replacements that many of us, me included, have done to our own boats. Nothing tricky, just a few hours of time.

I’ve done most repairs myself. Just need to find the time. Thanks for the help

Maybe a compression test is in order. No sense going through all that work if water has compromised your heads. We have repair shops around here that will replace everything from A to Z wether it needs all those things or not. Probably they don't want it coming back shortly after the work is done. But those are some crazy ass prices. Auto parts belt and IAC would be just fine and could get both for about $75.
