I have never winterized my boat, as it has always been done by the marina. I want to start the engine while it is on stands so I have purchased a set of water muffs to flush the engine. Do I have to do anything to the motor prior to firing it up other than install the muffs and turn on the water? Are there any plugs or anything that I need to worry about or will the pink stuff just flush out when I start the engine? Thanks in advance for your advice.

When the marina winterized your boat they may have disconnected some hoses. Visually check the engine, before you start it, to see that everything was put back togother and tight. Turn the water on and turn the key. Visually check the engine when it is running and listen for sounds that are not normal. Let it run until the it reaches the 160-170 degrees... That's all I would do...

Most places will attach a plastic bag to the steering wheel. It has the plugs or hose clamps they removed that need to be installed prior to starting the motor. If your boat is FWC, they may just run the pink stuff through. As mentioned above, check for loose hoses, drain plugs, garboard plug etc.. If water is coming out where it shouldn't then you'll know!

Make sure that they didn't bypass the water heater. Look for a red or blue hose that should be going to the heater looped over to the other water line instead. The other water line that should be going to that spot should be hanging somewhere close by.

Make sure your bilge is dry before they launch you. Within a minute or two of your boat hitting the water for the first time, get on board, open the hatch, and look for leaks. Start your engine with the hatch still open and check for leaks again. If it stays dry you're good to go.

I would flush the water tank and water heater before starting the engine. I hear the pink stuff will leave a funny smell if it's in the water heater with the engine running.
