Hi all,
I want to lubricate my power steering system. Some points call for engine oil as a lubricate and other points call for "Special Lubricant 101". Now, I can't find the 101 stuff so what can I use instead? Can I just use multi purpose silicon lubrcant? Thanks.

101 is available from your dealer and at most marine supply stores as well. It is sold under Mercury's Quicksilver label.

As Dave said check with your dealer. I had a hard time finding it at any of the marine stores but stoped by the dealer and they had it.

Thanks guys!
I stopped by the dealer and apparently they did not carry it. Hum, I'll check into some of the mail order places. Thanks again.

I use Quicksilver 2-4-C teflon supplemented lube and actually like it better. It is extremely waterfast (you can actually use it on items that run in the water), provides an ultrathin, but extremely slick and lubricating film and sticks very well. It is also light yellow and does not stain. I have used it from prop hubs to transom door buckles and actually like it better than 101. Merc also allows it as a replacement for 101 and you can get it from the aftermarket suppliers for a lot less than 101 at the marina.

where is a dealer not carrying 101???
101 and 2 4 c are lubricants that every serious dealer must have
they have to use it to be authorized mercury repair facility
