The weather finally cleared around here enough to grab a couple of pictures of the 7200c install which my wife bought from Jim. On the 270 there is a flat area at the helm which had a clear cover - used for charts. I found I didn't use this much so decided to make a mount for the GPS and install it in this flat area. I needed an angle but not too much as I didn't want to block any of the gauges when I was seated. I used Starboard which makes a huge mess but at least wont rot or warp on me. Since you cannot use adhesive on this stuff it was a bit tricky and this is actually version 2. I made the entire thing out of 3 pieces - the 2 triangular sides and the top which I made curve in 2 spots using my handy heat gun. I put a bead of 4200 when I joined the pieces together and then am relying on screws to hold it all in place. I then used white foam insulation on the base where it attaches to the helm. The results are certainly not perfect and I may end up doing a 3rd one but for now it's installed and hooked up at least.

I think it came out pretty well and certainly is much better looking than the old Garmin GPS which the boat came with. I have it hooked up to the VHF so the DSC will now work. I also made a new mount for the VHF out of the remaining Starboard since I had originally reused the old flush mount and it was showing its age.

The last remaining thing to do is fill in the holes the old GPS mount and cables left behind. Needs to warm up a bit before it will happen!

You should try to wrap it in gray vinyl, a gray that matches your switch panel.

I think I'm going to end up replacing the gauge and switch panels. Actually created another post on that topic and am trying to decide on materials etc. That's a great idea having it match with whatever those panels end up being.
