Hello everyone, glad to be on board. I will rack your brains to find out all I can about my Sea Ray. All the post are so informative it sound like I can get the best advise to help me boating. First of all I have a 1977 SRV240HT, hard to find any info on it. I picked it up a few years ago and spent as much time learning about my Sea Ray and boating. My wife wanted a camper, I had a nice bass boat that went to fast for her, couldn't make plane was too fast!. So I got the Sea Ray. Ha! Ha! We both got hooked, fast. I never had anything so big so it was a learning curve. So much maintenance, but the more I learned the more I loved boating. Then we met some Loopers! Wow! Talking about camping! Its the best of both worlds. We learned our 24' was a little small for looping but we see loopers come down the Illinois in smaller boat now and then. Anyway that's our dream. In the mean time I try to learn all about boating, maintenance and anything that will keep us above the water and not in it. About my boat, "Comodore". I thought I got a good deal from a man in the windy city till the price of boats dropped 6 month later. My Sea Ray was used for fishing on Lake Michigan. It was well taken care of but well used. The " Comodore" runs great, easy to work on and not so big to put in the water via my wife and I. We did a few repairs to insure our safe boating and anything to make it home away from home. We did learn to get a slip for the year to make it easer on us and i look forward to meeting other boaters.

Like I said I am going to rack some brains to find out all I can about my Sea Ray hard top. I will post questions like MPG, rpm, props and going thru locks and reading about all the tips from other boaters. Looking forward to hearing form anyone, safe boating and have fun.

What the heck is a looper? I know a lot of people who definitely are loopy.

If the question is about the great loop, then I had answered woul like to. It's actually my dreem do be able to do the loop at some point in my life.

OK. Not me. My understanding is that most of the Mississippi is industrial and icky. Besides, boats need salt in the water, otherwise they float lower.

Welcome to the site. I have a 76 SRV 240 Weekender. I wish it was a hard top or Sedan bridge. What engine and outdrive do you have? I have had some minor electrical problems....voltage regulator and starter relay. Nothing major and it runs great. Overall we really like our vintage boat. There are original brochures on the Sea Ray site that you can down load.
rgds,

Thanks everyone, glad to be joining you.
Hoosierhog, my HT has a mercruiser 233hp with a Alpha sterndrive. The Sterndrive I put on last fall. The old MR or pre-alpha 1.32 gear went out last year. I put it in a month ago to do the 5hr break-in. The new sterndrive is a 1.47 gear. I was concerned about prop change but it ran ok. I will check RPMs / speed the next time I get out.
As for the HT, I am glad I have it. I heard more than once how other boaters wish they had a "head" on there boat. It comes in handy although it is so small but it works.

Sfergson727, I am also new to "Forums" . I like the idea about the signature block. Thanks for the tip. I can use the help and will help out when ever I can. Most of the things I do for my Sea Ray right out of the repair book. I couldn't do a thing without it. Also, a good friend of mine a block down the street works on outboards, comes in handy.

Butch,

Welcome to the family! The Sea Ray Fam as well as the Pre-Carte Era boat club! I have a 78 260 Sundancer with the Merc 260. I've done ALOT of upgrades and electrical work so if you have any questions feel free to email/pm me or just look up my posts and see if I've answered any of your questions. Good luck and were all here to help!

Loopers

To the question of " Loopers". Yes, it is going on " The Great Loop" This is a good read, from our newspaper. I hope i copy and past this URL ok.

This URL is about a young couple doing the loop in a
16-foot, open hull Duroboat !
http://mywebtimes.com/archives/ottawa/display.php?id=381778&query=great loop

This above article is from the our paper. If it dont work, go to

http://www.mywebtimes.com and do a search "Great Loop"

I dont expect to do the Loop in my 24' Sea Ray, its to old. But maybe someday in the future.....

We are planning to do the Great Loop in a few years, when our kids are out of the house. We won't be going by way of the lower Mississippi, which most loopers avoid in favor of the Tennessee-Tombigbee, leaving only a short stretch of the Big Muddy between the Illinois River and the Ohio.

A good source of information on the loop is the Great Loop Cruisers Ass'n: http://www.greatloop.org .
