This is my first post and hope I'm in the right place. The swim platform on our 1986 Sea Ray 250 DA Sundancer was ripped off during a storm in February 2009. In March on a cold and rainy Friday night, my husband attempted to board the boat with out the platform. He slipped, hit his head on the prop and drowned. Divers recovered his body the next afternoon. They also located the platform and brought it up as well. I've posted pictures of it in my album.

I can't keep the boat with all that happened. In order to sell the boat, I need your input, please.
1. Can I have the platform replaced? If so, where and how?
2. Should I just sell the boat "as is" and let the next owner worry about it?

With boating season about to end, I need to make a decision soon.

Are you serious? He drowned? That is horrible. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss.

I'm very sorry to hear that. It's tragic and I wish you all the best. I think you can simply sell it "as is" and the new owner can reattach/repair. To not spook the new owner you may not want to share the fact that your husband died due to the boat. It was a terrible accident and let them know it was broken in the storm.

Again I wish you all the best.

And If you want sell it more complete you could have it reinstalled, I peeked at the pictures and it appears that there are damaged brackets that can easly be replaced. The chip on the inside corner is not that bad especially on a older boat, you can explain why it was there. Personally i would not buy a new one.

Sorry to hear about your loss, selling the boat is the right thing to do

Jen-
my wife and I are heartbroken after reading this post. My advice is to just relax about this swim platform. I noticed you were parked in a docksystem..so your probably a member of a boat club? If that's the case, relax. In any unfortunate small situation I've encountered, someone in my marina has offered their assistance. Boaters are a great group and are usually eager to help and just need direction. I imagine everyone knows the story and have plans to help you already. If for some reason the platform is not useable, I have one that i would be glad to donate, you just arrange shipping. 304 374 6578. Best of luck,

Thanks to all of you that have taken time to respond. I'm glad I found Club Sea Ray and decided to join. During this time as I recover, it's a blessing to know there are others willing to help, offer assistance and say a kind word. I'll try and keep you posted as to my progess.

I would concur that you should sell it as is. The new owner can handle the repair or replacement.

You need to mend and not mend a broken boat......

You are in our prayers...God Bless.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss Jen.

I can second southpaw's recommendation of swimplatforms.com for a replacement should you decide to go that route. However, I feel like several other posters that you might be better served by not worrying about the platform at all and just sell the boat as is, if you are inclined to sell it.
