Alrighty....As my beloved 268 of 12 years was taken by Sandy, I've been on the lookout. Not exactly sure what I'm looking for, as I was thinking of going back to a full out, utility sportfisherman, or something along the lines of my old Sea Ray with the accomodations below, and room to fish casually (Although I fished her hard at times for big game)...

I did come across a 1990 28ft Sea Ray Sundancer that looks pretty sweet! Obviously I would never by a boat without a full marine survey (like I did with my 268), but my question is regarding power. My old 268 had the single 7.4 and I loved it! I've sailed twin screws before but they were either huge turbo diesel's or twin 454's.

This 28 footer I'm thinking of looking at has the twin 4.3 MPI's with Bravo III's, the specs state 220 hp each. I was just wondering about your opinions regarding this setup from anyone who has experience with them. Power wise, getting on plane, fuel comsumption ect. I've read earlier post's and read some blogs, but I figure I'd ask here.

Any thought's on the subject would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

4.3 mpi bravo 3's. somebody put some money into repowering it. If that is a 280 sundancer with the 11 foot beam with that power. I'm down to 1.55 miles per gallon with the 270 sundancer 9 foot beam and twin 4.3's two barrel carbs. I really think that will not be a power house with that power. Could have trouble planning out with a load of people. The MPI is a huge plus and is what may make it worthwhile.

I agree the 4.3 MPI with B3's would not have been the original power.

As to your question, my '95 290 with carb'd 4.3's at 190HP & 3-blade prop's gets on plane just fine with 3 people on board & full fuel/water and will top out at about 40MPH at 4,400RPM

Looking for options... how 'bout a nice '05 260DA? I know a guy who might be willing to part with his

Yes, BigBlock, she was repowered in 2006 with the 4.3 MPI's and Bravo III's...has about 350 hours on 'em.
I do believe it is a 280 Sundancer....spec's state LOA=31ft 11 in. ; beam= 10ft 6in. 2ft 8 in draft and dry weight at 8000lbs.....
I came across it sort of near me, and was a possible consideration...
Still keeping my eyes open, tho....

I'd rather have the 350's and the Alpha 1's but that's just me, Mike.

I agree, Mike. I would rather have 5.7's as well, or a single big block....I was just curious as to what people think. I've read that, that power option (t4.3's) was fine, and then I've read that it's kinda underpowered...Like I mentioned, I just happened to come across it, and it looks great according to the pic's and has nice amenities..
I actually was too slow as there was a '94 weekender with the twin 350's and EVERYthing that I would have wanted, or would have installed but it dissapeared off the marina's site...I've inquired for further info, but not yeat heard from them....I think it was too good a deal and someone snatched it!
