Long Island East End trips.

If all goes accordingly. I will be leaving the anchorage in lindenhurst sat Aug 8th to head to block. For the first night I will most likely be rafting with the flotilla that will be on the last leg of there trip. The rest of the week I will be getting a mooring. And hopefully staying till sun aug 16th. I will probably be running inside till shinnecock inlet . And visa versa coming home unless seas are flat. Anybody care to join and follow your more then welcome.

"OP" here and i have been checking in ..... thanks to all of you for your input it looks like montauk yacht club is the one for that trip.
and for the " between the forks trip" I'm still looking... island boat yard looks nice.
we may bounce around on that trip from greenport to shelter to sag but probably only a couple places as this trip will also be a thursday PM to monday or tuesday only.
again thanks for the input love the local knowledge.
i did see the posting for the trip however cannot commit to those locations and dates. someday....

I am probably running to MYC then Block the second week of august also. I ran outside about a half mile out in the Atlantic last year using Moriches Inlet & it took me just over 4 hours. My home port in Blue Point.

Todd - I just decided to move my boat over to Bluepoint from Center Moriches. I am slip 211. I was hoping you could let me know your thoughts on the Marina.

Are you in Blue Point Marina, on Corey Creek? I am in BayPoint Marina, on the west tip of the cove in Blue Point (big blue building).
If you are in Blue Point Marina it's not a bad location. I'm not sure how much water is in there. Paul (PMC) looked there last year & said it was too shallow for his 40' sedan. They also have a gas dock there but I heard that since the old man passed away, they have not opened the pump.
As far as location though, it's nice. You have Flo's Sandwich shop a hundred feet to the north. It's a great place to stop for a bite or grab ice cream with the family. Just south of the marina you have JW's. They have decent food, cocktails & live music on the weekends most times. Then across the street is Corey Beach. I used to take my kids there all the time when I was in the Corey Creek Brookhaven town marina.
As far as the entrance to the creek, off of the bay, BE CAREFUL! There are many (non boating) locals who toss their crabbing crap out into the channel which is very narrow (~25-30'?) and it can get caught in your running gear. When I was in Corey, I usually had to get a short haul once a season to clear twine, rope, chicken bones etc from my starboard prop. I hope this info is useful!

Todd thanks, yes it's on Corey Creek.., So other than getting a crab pot in my running gear it's great!!! lol . I am use to low water, Mudd Creek in Center Moriches gets down to 2.5' at low tide... the crabbers on the other hand might be an issue for me... hmmmm Thanks again for the Intel. Perhaps we can catch up when the season gets underway. Thanks again

As Todd points out, the marina is decent spot. Good atmosphere, protected, secured with a gate...I looked last year, and it just didn't work for me. The marina wanted to put me on the north-most end of the gas dock (just past the marina). Being broad side was good, but the canal is narrow (50' feet or so). I'm able to spin in that much space, but just felt way too tight for a permanent spot.

The entrance was "interesting" You should have enough water coming in, just stay in the center of the channel. Watch your position, as the west wall is shallow. To avoid getting tangled in fishing line and chicken bones, you need to keep a clear distance from the "fisherman" (I use that word loosely). Keep a eye out for any oncoming boats, it is not wide enough to pass. Once your inside, (near the boat ramp) you have plenty of room to idle and wait around.

The location is good with Watch Hill and Davis straight across the bay.

Thanks PMC... I loved the location, as you point out, the width of the creek was a concern, but a bigger one was the wind. I have been able to enjoy a well protected Marina for the last 4 years, this one seems a bit more open. I would have not wanted to be on the north end , I would not have taken a spot there either and I need much less room. Where did you wind up?

Ha, a few slips down from tdshafer. I think you'll be fine with the wind. JTs will knock it down pretty good when out of the SW

Glad I could help. Like Paul said, it's a pretty cool spot- I loved the location when I was in the town marina. Unfortunately for me, they discontinued the night security a few years ago due to budget issues while continually raising the price! That combo made it easy for me to leave. I miss walking to Flo's with the family for ice cream after a long weekend at the beach. Welcome to the area & I look forward to meeting for a drink or two this season!

UM getting into the entrance of your marina isn't a picnic either. It was like roaring rapids the day we stayed over en route to Shelter Island. Ask Joe.. I think he had to change his shorts 3 times

Yea ron man up! I had no issues getting in with the 20knt wind and the 2ft waves blasting the port side when the entrance is only 20feet wide and there's no protection until your in the entrance! Sorry tod but agreeing with ron that entrance is hairy on a good day

You guys need to hand in your man cards! Lol
That day with a southeast wind at 20+ knots & 3' whitecaps was a little scary but most days it's a piece if cake. I didn't hear any complaints the next morning as we departed! No wind & water was flat, like a lake!

Neither do I tod. I never understand half the things I say! I'm just a great big call of confusion! But hey I made ya think about making sense out of it didn't I. As for lake George, That my friend is not a flat lake. I did the entire perimeter of the lake in my dink. Took me 8 hours and a 36 of Coors. Took me 2 days to recover from the beating we took
