Looking forward to a great summer and no more winter...
planning 2 trips to the east end. (July and August)
one trip to Montauk and another to either Shelter island or Sag harbor.

Montauk we are thinking of staying Montauk Yacht club even though it seems over priced.
for shelter or sag we have no favorites.
please let me know some do's, dont's, favorites,
we will bring our dinghy so moorings can be mixed in to change it up and save some...
thanks

Montauk, I would do the MYC. Great place, pools, restaurants, etc. THe other marina is Star Island, not sure they will be that much less, very nice place to stay as well.
Shelter - Island boat yard is fantastic. They have a pool, restaurant and shuttle service to anywhere on the island. You can moor in west neck Harbor. this is the south side of the island.

I would recommend Montauk Yacht Club. They have a couple pools, tennis courts, nice restaurant & a free shuttle to town.
I tried out Star Island last year at the request of one of the people we were traveling with. It is more of a fishing marina. It's a great place to gas up & the staff was very nice. They had nice showers & laundry room, floating docks and was a little cheaper but, it just wasn't what I was looking for on vacation.
As far as Shelter Island goes you have a couple options that I am familiar with through the flotillas I attended the past 2 summers. There is Cocles Harbor, which I believe has a marina but does have a great anchoring area. That's where we had our raft up in 2013. On the other side of shelter island is Island Boat Yard marina, which is where the flotilla held it's feast last year. I was docked on the inner marina but they do have floating docks on the outer part of the marina along the banks of the harbor. Some of the amenities are a pool with a Tiki Bar & live music on the weekend afternoons. They also have a restaurant but it was difficult to get a table. I'd recommend getting reservations prior to your arrival if you wish to eat there. I believe they also had a shuttle to town if you find that you need provisions.
I really have no information on Sag Harbor as I have never stayed there but I'm sure others can chime in on that location. I hope this helps.

I anchor out at Sag. There are some transient docks right before the bridge, but there is good holding both outside the breakwall, beyond the bridge in the cove and also rental moorings as well.

If you are planing to stay a few days you could do a day in sag and a day in greenport if you decide in shelter island west neck is the place to spend the nite during the day you can stay at the town dock it's an easy walk to town!

How many hors can you guys travel before the family says thats enough?

It really depends. We made a full days run from Block Island to Nassau County (south shore) in one trip, about 10 hours (136 sm - running inside due to big seas in ocean). My 5 yo son was ok (watching TV in cabin) and dog were ok (made a fuel stop so she had a walk), wife was "done" by the time we got home. We probably should have stayed the night somewhere to break up the trip.

Harold

where is ur home port?
I Would love to do block island I'm in lindenhurst

If you guys are doing block, let me know; I would like to do block as well; I am out of Center Moriches

2 nd week in aug we go over to block with about 12 boats its a great place

I am probably running to MYC then Block the second week of august also. I ran outside about a half mile out in the Atlantic last year using Moriches Inlet & it took me just over 4 hours. My home port in Blue Point.

Saverio,
my home port is in Oceanside. My house is on the water, so I keep it in my back yard.

Are you in the Anchorage? If you are, a couple of the guys from CSR are and will be there as well.

We try to get to FI at least once or twice during the season (Davis Park and Watch Hill). We also really look forward to the CSR Northeast Flotilla which this year will be August 1 to August 9. This year we will be going to Shelter Island, then Newport, the East Greenwich, RI, then to Block.

We also do many trips to Zach's Bay for day and usually raft up with Ron and Jonathan from CSR. This Memorial Day, a group is getting together for the Air Show. Anyone in the area should join us. The more the merrier!

Oh that's right, that's a legal holiday in RI still, right? I think they had a big costume party at Champlins bar on that night last year!

Is it just me or is it funny how the OP hasn't checked back in on this thread after asking the question?
