I was just wondering if anyone here recieved a temporary license plate when they drove there new boat off the lot. I did not recieve one, and I just got a warning from the local sheriff that I would be ticketed if I did not get one immediately. I called MM and they said that I would get one in the mail shortly. I called the police and they said that since I paid for the license and registration that I should have been given one by MM. MM heeed and hawwed about it, but left it at, " It's coming soon". Any ideas?

My dealer has the tags there and will be on the trailer when we pick it up. How long was it between your purchase and taking delivery?

In GA MM give you a temp tag. Then the real tag comes in the mail in a couple weeks.

We got the boat a few days after we ordered it. It has been about a month and we still don't have a temp plate nor do we have our registration numbers. I called MM and they basically gave me some bs story about the computer that does the temp licenses is down, etc etc. Not real happy about all this nonsense. The last thing I need right is a citation for not having a temp tag.

I got a piece of paper stating that I had purchased the boat new and was told to go to the DMV to get the tag ASAP. If I did get pulled over however within the first couple of days to show them the papers and that should take care of it. If you have owned the boat for 30 days you should have already went and purchased your regular tag anyway I would think.

In Illinois, I had to go to the DOR and get a temporary tag. Illinois dealers don't issue temps, they are actual cardboard plates that are issued by the DOR. That is atleast the way it was 3 years ago.

I did not get a tag from Treasure Island Marina when I bought both my boats from them. Sales receipt was taken to the local tag office here in GA and I was issued a tag the same day. The trip home from PCB was uneventful as long as I had my sales receipt showing I had bought the boat just a couple of days ago. No temp tag was needed. Take your sales receipt and go get a permanent tag. Whats the problem?

My boat dealer had the temporary cardboard plate already on the trailer when I first picked up my boat.

Repeatedly told me not to put it in the water unless I removed it first!!

Every state is different, but it sounds like FL is similar to Texas, unlike Oklahoma that doesn't tag trailers.

If in Texas, they should have had a paper plate on the trailer before you drove off. The real tags of course could take a while, but usually within the 30 days that the paper tags are (usually) good for.

Glad you got it taken care of and your dealer came through

Yeah, overall I really like the dealer I bought the boat from. in fact we've become friends because of it, can't say that about to many other people that I deal with on a personal level.

IN FL did you pay for the tag at the dealer? In GA you pay for the tag at the dealer. It's even got to the point if you purchase across the state line ie:NC you still pay for the GA tag and tax at the dealer now.
