I replaced my original television.
The main reason was that it didn't run on 12V.
Second reason was that we don't play video tapes anymore, but DVD’s.

So I bought a 20" LCD with build in DVD player that runs at 9V - 24V because this LCD has a build in volt stabilizer

I made a hatch with the LCD on it.

Here you can see the build in DVD player.

Nice work. But it looks like you still have tapes in the storage

Yes  Still got the television in the bedroom :smt015
But I am going to replace that one also.

You know how it works... I have already replaced 6 TV’s at home for big screen plasma's and LCD.
And the admiral don't like the amount of old TV’s in the garage

So I always wait for the right moment for a new project.

Great job Peter, I just posted a question on the tv/vcr thread. I am wondering what model flat screen fits inside the cabinet. I would like to mount one in the cabinet that can pull out and swivel just like the current tv. I have seen this tv in the 340 and I'm sure other models have the same (LG 15"?) I think my cabinet is the same size as that in the 340.

Awsome Peter,

Did you ever think about offering that to the public, probably most people would like to upgrade to the LCD in that fashion.

Nice Job!

Well I am not that commercial  .
I find it nice to share ideas with my friends like everyone here!

But feel free  !

Peter: That looks great. I have a 1997 Sea Ray 40 DA with the salon TV/VCR over the refrigerator. I think that I could probably do the same thing. I have 2 questions, what was the opening size once you removed the TV and those scissor type hinges that you used for the board, do you know what the correct name for them is and what size you used. I realize you are in Europe and you use metric but that's okay. I have no trouble with the conversion.
You can email me @ bhs19682003 ** yahoo.com if you would like.

Thanks and great job!

Hello Michael,

Sorry for my late reply, I was on a holiday!

I get your mail also.

I didn't know the dutch word before I bought these things, but I found a site where you can buy them.

http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=22482F

The sizes from the TV hatch are: 38cm X 38cm or in US size: 11,81 inch X 11,81 inch.

It didn't take to much time to make the hatch system.

Succes Peter.

Thank you Peter for the website information. Hope your time on holiday was enjoyable. Did you go somewhere with your boat? Since my email to you, I have purchased a 23" Toshiba Lcd HDTV TV/DVD combo which I am taking to and from the boat as I want it. It works out nicely because I can place it anywhere on the boat and still watch DVD's, even on deck in the cockpit area in the evening. However, I still intend to either make or have a door made for my opening and remove the tv that is there now. It will allow me to have another source of storage on the boat.

Well, I am off to the boat for the weekend with my wife. I will chat online with you again another time.

Regards,
OJ

Fantastic MOD!

This work around is really really nifty! I'm going this route on two of my sets ... I love keeping the storage especially in the galley where storage is near nil!

What would you think of gas shocks instead of the hinges you used.

Peter, how did you make the TV run on DC.?
Did you just cut off the AC plug and find wire running DC and splice into it?
I am asking because I have 3 LCD TV's in my boat that run on AC but I believe they can all run on 9v-24v and I would like to run them off DC.
If anyone else can answer this question, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
