Large Carver fire at dock - New Jersey

Amazing footage! What a quick response to what could have been a dozen boats destroyed.

I think pushing the other boats out of their slips is a big mistake. 1 you are setting yourself up for liability for damage occurred etc from the boats you touched and 2 you may be blocking the access via waterway to the boat that is on fire. Big mistake.

Wow! Great footage! I hope no one was hurt.

Dave, that's about 3 miles up the road from my marina in Brick, NJ. Comstock Marina.

Well just let the whole marina burn up then.

Made the news here. Electrical but not sure what device or why. They didn't expound much on it.

Wow! Great footage from the security camera.

Great Video and great response. Though the first fire boat looked pathetic.

Guaranteed the boats next to the Carver took some heat damage, possibly enough to total the boats. Pushing them out into the harbor may have saved them. A couple of boats floating in that enclosed harbor can easily be pushed out of the way.

Personally I won't hide behind the cowardly "liability" excuse.

From the marina cam:

If I discovered a fire on the dock, I would untie the directly adjacent boats and push them out of their slips (if in a protected harbor as shown).

Of course this assumes the fire is in it's early stages.
would it not be better to untie the burning boat and shove or tow it out away from the others if it could be kept controlled ??

Once you untie anything, how are you going to be sure it does float/blow into the burning boat?

Did that boat on the starboard side get damaged? That first fire boat looked like a garden hose. Looks like everyone did a good job containing it. Thanks for posting.

No good deed goes unpunished...

Did the whole marina burn up?

No boat on starboard side (luckily) or there would have been two or more boats burnt up. The wind was blowing fire that direction.

Floating boats are not going to block fire boats (.....that are of limited use 90% of the time because critical flow cannot be reached in an advanced fire until multiple hoses are deployed).

These fires tend to burn to the water line because:
1 - rapid fire advancement
2 - poor accessibility for fire equipment

The best defense it would seem is to create a fire block (think wildland firefighting). Remove the fuel for the fire (adjoining boats).

I'm not saying its going to be perfect in execution, but I am a man of action and will try to save life and property given the chance.

Too dangerous to untie the fire boat and unable to control where it goes.

If my boat is directly adjacent to a boat on fire I hope my slip neighbors untie it and push it out, if they can early in the event (safely).
