Guys just a reminder that kids sometimes read these boards with their parents. It is also not a good image to have a board filled with ***** words. If you feel that you need to use a **** find a different word to discribe your feelings. I started a couple of weeks ago amending postings (thanks to everyone that understood and apoligized for it) and it seems other people are doing it more and more. I am not trying to pick on anyone but just try and be aware of it when making postings. To most of the postings, I have gone in and amended (example changed to darn removed the m and added r, etc). I am sure I have missed some. But if you could help out and be aware of it that would be greatly appreciated.

You guys do alot to make this the best boating forum on the web, lets just make sure we keep it clean as well.

Wesley

AH HA! So YOU are the guy changing my posts! WTF?

(My kids told me what "WTF" means)

You should provide us a list of words that are acceptable. For example, my wife thinks "stupid" is a bad word. Do you think "stupid" is a bad word? Please help us. Can we just use symbols? Like $#%^*@? and let people's dirty little minds insert the "D" or "F" word (depending on how dirty they are)?

Most of the board here are adults speaking to adults. Cursing should only be used :smt014 like this and no other way.

Gottcha....

So in my long droning thread on my month long trip, I talked about my dog that chewed up my replacement BlackBerry after 1 day. Instead of saying:

"The D*** dog chewed up my phone again before it was even 24 hours old"

I should have said:

"The :smt014 dog chewed up my phone again before it was even 24 hours old"

My wife also thinks that "butt" is a bad word and the kids are not allowed to say that... So instead of saying:

"We finally found someone to play with Butt-Squeaking-Elvis-Chicken Man"

I should have said:

"We finally found someone to play with :smt014 -Squeaking-Elvis-Chicken Man"

The bad thing about this is that people will "insert" the wrong curse word into :smt014 as they are reading it. I don't want people inserting the "F" word into :smt014 when talking about the Butt-Squeaking-Elvis-Chicken Man" because the squeaker was in his butt (or should I say it was in his :smt014 ) and people may not get the joke. And it just sounds bad to say F******-Squiaking-Elvis-Chicken Man"

Thoughts anyone? Or am I just being :smt014 stupid? (or my wife would say am I just being :smt014 :smt014 )

hahahaha that was :smt014 funny

Gary - while funny, please understand the goal that we are trying to accomplish here at CSR.

p.s. - yes it was me that changed your posting as well as alot of others. That was the reason for my posting this last week. I do not see why anyone feels the need to say WTF either but what do you do when someone says it everyday in every sentence. I personally do not talk like that and therefore do not talk like that on the board. There again I still say sir (even if the guy is younger than me) as well.

Maybe I am holding you guys to too high of standards, for that I apoligize.

I think in trying to be the "Best" forum on the internet we are sterilizing ourselves right off the web. Personally I find grown men using animated emoticons far more disturbing than saying "WTF".
Then again that's just me.
I also find it disturbing that anytime there is some disagreement, or some dissenting opinions (like there are every day in real life), everyone starts tripping over themselves trying to make nice or some moderator threatens to lock a thread.
People disagree. Get over it. We're here to share a common passion, and sometimes that involves passionate responses. As long as they're not disrespectful, and they very rarely are, deal with it.
Rant off.

This censorship post I just read has got me concerned. I understand you're a moderator, but....does that give you the authority to edit someone else's post? I guess it does, but it really shouldn't.

When I read someone's post, I learn a little bit about them, who they are, their lifestyle, etc. But now there is someone lurking changing various words in someone's post so that what ends up coming out of their mouths (fingers), is not really what they said.

Why can't we just leave it up to common sense and the majority of the people? If Gary says damn and people don't like it, well, everyone can cause an uproar, either causing him to succumb to defeat and suck it up and quit, or leave. No blatant censorship, and no blatant misuse of the powers given you.

That's my take on it anyway. And I don't think I've ever used a "bad" word on this board! But then again, I've tried to lead a secret life here and hide my :smt014 trucker-mouth.

I think moderators do have the right to change a post as they see fit. It is a free country.....If anyone wants a board that anything goes they can start their own!

Hopefully I have been a good boy and not use abbreviations for curse words.

Shouldn't that be between Gary and the moderator? If it doesn't bother him.....what the hel# (oops I mean heck). If no guidelines are put in place, this board will deteriorate to a point where it makes no sense to log on. It will become the private domain of a few individuals that tend to try and dominate the board with inane, superfluous, and grammatically embarrassing posts!

I personally think the moderators (well maybe not Richard, but certainly the others (I'm kidding Richard))) are doing an outstanding job of keeping a lid on the rest of us (and yes, I include myself in the list of people that need a leash on occasion).

Just my $.02.

I like the :smt014 blinking effect on garys :smt014 post.

Having losts of :smt014 blinking things could probably set off a :smt014 epileptic seizure.

Wanted to add to this, instead of me just being comical.

I'm fine with a moderator modifying a post as he sees fit but at the bottom of that post that he modifies he sould put a note or comment.

NOTE: This post has been modified because of xxxxx

Whatever xxxxx might be for that post.

Not sure where this post is going, how about we just try to keep it clean and then there will not have to be any posts edited, plus it will make the Mods. job a lot easier. With the way this board keeps growing it's going to be hard enough just to keep it up and running.
Just my 2 cents.

Honestly I don't care what happens to my posts as long as I can talk about Sea Rays

But, I do know this type of forum has the ability to put in a bank of words (by the mods) and then whenever those words come about they are automatically replaced by XXXXX. This would not only save time for the mods but likely cut back on hurting peoples feelings who don't like mods editing posts.

Just my 2 cents.....now lets get back to boat talk.

Graham

Wesley is right in what he is trying to do here. He is just trying to keep this place family oriented, in other words and good place for men, women and children to talk about the family sport of boating. I am a member of several boards and most of them have similar rules, especially the language used, and most of them enforce the rules the same way. So give the mods a break they are just doing what they are supposed to do, after all we all agreed to these rules when we signed up on Club Sea Ray.

Thanks Midway but my dad always told me, if you are wrong, say you are wrong as soon as you realize it, and move on. After getting to read all of the supportive PMs last night as well as all of the non-supportive PMs here is what I have decided:

Although I stand behind what I was trying to accomplish, I should not have edited anyone's message. If I did edit your message I apoligize about that and that should not have happened. If you were offended that I edited anyones message I apoligize about that also.

We really do have some great members here and I appreciate everything you guys do for the board!!!

Wesley
