Lake Superior 3 More Weeks!!

Yes, plan on spending 8-10 days there. I had to give a rough itinerary to the NPS for the boat permit so I picked out 1 anchorage in each of the 4 quadrants of the island. Nothing’s etched in stone, it’s preliminary. At the end of the trip I pencil in where we actually stayed and for how long and mail it back to the parks service.
Hopefully won’t be too long, admiral says we’re not leaving until she sees a moose and hears a wolf howl. :)
Well, did she get her wish?

We got lucky on our first trip to the island. Saw a cow & calf moose in Washington Harbor and heard wolves howling while in Chippewa Harbor.

She's spoiled, always gets what she wants.

Tobin Harbor. Surprised us when returning to the boat. By the time I got the camera up and running, Momma was going for cover.

We managed to use the boat as cover and get on board to get a couple good shots from the bridge though.

On our way back to the dinghy from Lookout Louise at Hidden Lake.

Leaving Tobin Harbor to head to Chippewa on the big boat we had to yield the right of way.
When I first saw it from a distance, I thought it was a bird on a rock. Once I realized the rock was swimming, I hit the brakes and grabbed the camera.

Chippewa must be the place for wolves, that's where she heard it!

What we didn't get to see is you. We pulled up to Houghton city dock on a Sunday afternoon in the rain and it rained all day Monday and half of Tuesday so you must have been home as we could see a nice looking 420 across the canal that the canvas was never undone on and there was no one around. Can't say as I blame you, those were the wetest days of our time in Superior.
In Detour village today and it's raining. This is the first chance I've had to write a little something with a few pics. Maybe I'll post some others on a new thread.

Awesome pics Mark!

Well, I wish I had more boating pics. I pulled mine from the marina after I couldn't get it running properly, and the local mechanic couldn't quite figure out what was happening. We pretty much narrowed it down to the ECM, but I'll find out more soon. More boat bucks.....

Boat wise, it started like this.....

after a few beers, I decided to grab a vessel that wasn't powered by a motor, affectionately named 'Party Island'.

Out of sympathy, my friend took me out on his 270AJ from Bayfield WI. I think I like it, a lot....

Thanks, We had a great time in Superior, just can't get used to not being able to jump in the water when it's in the 80's. I know you guys are tougher than us, I did see some people in the water in Bayfield. We did manage to get in the water in McCargoe Cove, it was 60 degrees back in there, but upper 40's/low 50's= not happening.
Sorry to hear about your boat, looks like you made a great time of it anyway, and it looks like you had some calm weather.

We had some awfully hot temps - 90's for a few days. Made it a little miserable because we have no air at the cabin. Also, in Siskiwit Bay, one day the water turned and it was ice cold - toe cramping cold. Top it off with the heat and then sprinkle in some black biting flies. Too cold to get in and when you're out, you're hot and the flies get you. The water in the bay is usually 70 to mid 70's through July-Aug which is tolerable.

One thing my neighbor up there says, 'it's never perfect'.

The N. Shore water temp is a little different. When the NW wind comes, it blows all the warm surface water down by us. The word 'warm' is relative tho. :D
