Lake Saint Clair Peeps

We are planning on being up there a couple of times this summer at NCYC ……. Definitely will be taking the dinghy over to check it out.

keep us updated if you hear any progress

Blueone, pretty sure I saw your boat at the NCYC, last year, if I remember correctly, you where backed in along the North Channel. We have an island down from the club on the Sni. Anyway, if your looking for a dinghy ride to the new bar just take the canal between Tiki Toms place and Deckers, head under the bridge (watch your head) and just follow along the sea wall, until the water opens up then head straight and your basically there.

We took that canal last year when we took the dinghy to the island grill. Yes we were backed up to the north channel…great spot

Anchor Bay Marina bought the South Channel Yacht Club last summer. Supposedly making a lot of improvements.
Is south channel YC a place to go by dinghy for lunch?…. Looked at website but doesn’t say anything

Don't know. I saw the overhead shot of the yc at Anchor Bay Marina when I stopped to organize showing my Cobia. The office mgr said she'd been over there a couple of times just to get a visual of the layout so she can set up rentals. She said the club house was built in the early 1900's I think. Didn't say anything about a restaurant.

I'm not all that familiar with the Harsons Island area I was just hanging around the Clinton River area with the little boat the last year and a half.

Hey Joe, hope so, that would be great.
Hope you are fairing well during the off season, can't wait until we launch.
We're doing well. Hope you guys are as well. We're leaving next Friday the 4th for Islamorada and coming back the 21st... Gotta get thawed out a little so I can make it the rest of the winter.

Enjoy your winter thaw. Definitely will catch up this season out on the water.

We purchased a new boat at the end of the last season. The PO had the boat documented with the Coast Guard. Does anyone here know if the boat needs to be registered with the state of Michigan as well? The boat does have MC #'s with a 2023 tag on it but the PO said it was not registered. I have no experience with a Coast Guard Documented boat. TIA!

I'm going through the same thing. Boat was documented AND had a Michigan title. No good. I decided to go the documentation route. I provided that info when I got the Michigan registration and of course paid sales tax. Now, I still haven't received the documentation certificate from the Coast Guard. That was back in October. To be honest, just titling it in Michigan would have been fine. Like @km1125 said I won't need to display the MC #'s on the hull, just the sticker which will be on a window side glass. I will also get a documentation # plaque

Our 320 was documented thru the coast guard; MC numbers are not required to be placed on the hull externally, but you have to have the MC numbers on a placard which ours was in the engine bay. The only sticker externally would be your watercraft sticker from MI SOS. I may be wrong, but those need to be on the forward part of the bow similarly with where the MC #'s would be. When we sold our 320 last Fall, it was not an issue, but the process takes longer because we had to work thru the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard has a 'decent' web site that explains much of this. I am considering documenting our new to us 390 because a) i want to support the coast guard, b) like the looks w/o the MC number externally ... I'm OCD. Personal preference unless your finance company makes you do so.

Same here, we took possession in early October and we just got our documentation certificate from the CG on Monday!

When you went to SOS to get your Michigan registration all your needed was proof it’s documwnted with the CG?

I read this on the SOS website,

“The assigned registration and the Coast Guard documentation papers in the new owner's name must be shown to register a documented vessel."

I currently do not have the “assigned registration”

Recently went through this October 2021
1. You need the previous owners Mi registration and USCG Documentation properly signed by both selling and buying parties and USCG documentation certificate notarized. Additionally, if a loan was in effect on the vessel, you need the release of loan by the bank, loan office signed and notarized.
2. Copies of these documents should be emailed to the USCG along with proper forms completed to transfer ownership.
3. When going to the MI SOS office, bring copies and originals of these documents. They will retain the endorsed registration and copies if the USCG certificate of documentation issued to the previous owner and endorsed by buyer with notarization.
4. the MI SOS office will issue a new registration to the purchasing party.
5. the USCG website provides approximate timeframe for completing the transfer of documentation. They are currently working on September 2021 documents.
6. A documented vessel in MI must display the state registration sticker. The MC numbers are optional if the vessel is documented and certificate of documentation is current.
7. the USCG documentation number must be permanently affixed to the vessel according to regulations. This is usually found in the engine compartment on the vessel stringers.
8. I am not aware of any MI regulation. to affix the MI registration number to the vessel.

I hope this helps.
