lake levels

The lakes are already cold , being a salmon fisherman on Lake Michigan , it was tough finding warm water , it was 45* 10 feet down so they will freeze fast !!! Let's hope for a ton of snow and maybe another 24" of water rise again !!!

I agree. I can take another cold winter if we get the water levels in Georgian Bay up another foot over winter. On the other hand, the rising water took away about 20 feet of my waterfront beach lot this year. Small price to pay though.

I am hoping for 6-12" of rise in the levels,it will just make it easier to get on and off the boat. The marina i am in now sieches with wind change, sometimes up to 3 ft in a few minutes with heavy rains added in.Over 100 of 186 docks had to be raised to winter heights this past week to keep ice damage to a minimum.Next year will be our first year on floating docks for a full season at a new to us marina. We stayed there over labor day weekend and it was nice just stepping off the platform onto the dock rather than stepping up 2 ft or climbing up one ladder and then down three steps.

Here's a bit more from up here: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers indicates that Lake Superior is 8 inches above the long term monthly average of October. Lake Superior is also 10 inches above the level of 1 year ago and just 8 inches below the highest monthly average level of record for October, set in 1985.
It's funny looking back at the forum this time last year. Many of you on the lower lakes were stuck with marinas too shallow to pull the boats.
Crazy how quickly things turned around.

I say bring it - Lots easier to get around in the channels & such. Only thing that sucked is it was kind of a crappy summer for boating. (cold) and not that long of a season. Hopefully we have a hard winter but it warms up a little from this year.

Looks like 2015 Great Lakes water levels will be at a record high this year. Huge difference from when I bought my boat in 2012 and launched it on Lake St. Clair.

Now all we need is a cold winter to freeze over the lakes and next season looks even better for water depth.
The percentage of ice coverage on the Great Lakes is higher than last year at this time. The reason reportedly is due to colder water temps going into the winter season because of last year's cold winter and cool summer. I like this weather.

The down side of the cold water last year was fog for most of the month of July. Give us snow / rain, not ice and the fog to follow.

They may get even higher; Niagara Falls is currently frozen for the second time this season.
