No wonder I have not been on this board for so long!!!
I finally registered. I have been watching this board for the last couple of months. It appears that there is a great deal of experience and knowledge available through this board, and I want to thank all of you in advance.

Unfortunately, I do not yet own a Searay yet, and probably won't for a couple of years...she says we need a new house first. But, living in the middle of corn fields, it will need to be trailerable. So I am hoping for a 280/290 SD. While I do not have it yet, I am enjoying living vicariously through all the rest of you.

OK, I'll quite rambling now....

Welcome. Glad to have you, but you need to get your priorities straight. Boat always comes before house.

Hello and welcome

I think when you spend a couple of years here before you buy a Searay, you know more than the people that own a Searay already for a couple of years but are not a CSR member!

So ask a lot of questions and have fun.

Aren't all house in the mid west trailerable.. ...sorry...I just couldn't resist....

Welcome aboard.....and I hope you have a good sense of humor...

later,

osd9 - I only have 1 truck, so I could only pull half the house....I live in one of them there high class neighborhoods!!!!

Sea Gull - You forgot the priority that comes before the boat, and she controls that one too, so I guess the house does come first. [/quote]

Welcome aboard.

No doubt, you will get your Sea Ray...

Welcome aboard neighbor!! I have friends and relatives in Williamsville. This is a great board for current and future Sea Ray owners.

Welcome to CSR... Go ahead, you still have time, put a 290 under the Christmas Tree!!!!!!
Remember, it's always easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission!!!

Welcome Aboard, don't let these guys give you to hard a time, What am I saying that have the fun. :smt043  They give me a hard time about being being from the North GA Mountains, something about hillbillies, etc

A little bow rider or sundeck can be a lot of fun, too. And neither one will break the bank.

On the other hand, I sold the Sea Ray bowrider I'd bought new in '97 and bought a bigger used boat with the same money. You can't imagine what you can find for very little cash.

Think summer!

Thanks everybody for the welcome.

Widowmaker - do you live on the lake, or keep your boat at one of the clubs?

When I do buy something, it will definitely be slightly used. I just can't justify spending that much $$ on something new, when I can spend considerably less for something a year or two old and have essentially the same thing. I know it probably won't have all the bells and whistles that I might like to have, but oh well, I'll get by.

Everybody around here has been trying to talk me into something like a bowrider. But I grew up skiing and cruising around the local lake, and to be honest with you, when the lake is only a couple miles long it gets old pretty quick. And I definitely got tired of trying to figure out what to do with skiis, tubes etc. when not in use. But I fell in love with the express cruisers when I was about 15 on a trip to Florida. Then I spent a couple of my college years in Holland, Michigan, and decided that is what I want, something we can spend a weekend on at Lake of the Ozarks, or the river. It might take me a few years to find the right boat, but eventually I will. And the longer it takes, the bigger the boat fund is=nicer boat.

Sorry this is kinda windy, but it is Friday :smt038

I grew up on Lake Spfld but now we live in town and keep our boat at a local club. We have a covered slip and an air lift which makes it convenient for weeknight outings. Lake Spfld is overboated on weekends but we do OK with our 20 footer. Most folks are in 17-24 footers on the lake.

I know what you mean about the same lake getting old. We have trailered over and done some trips on the Illinois/Miss rivers from Meredosia to Alton for the block partys. We also trailered to LOTA. Also been to Shelbyville and Carlyle. I think Lake Shelbyville is a nice lake, you can always find smooth water on at least one arm on windy days. Carlyle is wide open and too windy and rough most days.

IMHO LOTA is way overboated. My 20 footer was much too small for weekend traffic, but weekdays aren't too bad. Our friends have a 26 foot bowrider and that is the minimum to "get by" safely. A 29 footer would be my choice for that lake.

There is so much to consider when buying a trailer boat.
How often will you use it? How many will be with most of the time. What will you trailer it with? Anything bigger than a 22 to 24 footer and you are looking at a F250/350 type vehicle. A cuddy/cruiser is nice for storage and sleeping but limits the passenger space. Also it can get so hot you won't go down there anyway unless you have a generator and a/c. Noise and $$.

There's no doubt a 2-3 year old boat is a better buy. My first boat was used. This one I bought new but I'll keep her for many years and I know what it's been through. You may want to look at a 22-24 sundeck with camper package for camping. They have alot of storage space too and have a porta potti and sink. In my opinion they are the nicest looking deck boats; not so boxy looking.

St Louis has a good boat show to browse at this winter.

Sorry for the long post it's Friday. Good luck with your search!!

hillbillie?? isn't that Appalachian American to be pc???

Ya know.... if you work it just right.. that Sea Ray can qualify as a house..not sure what the IRS thinks of it sitting in a cornfield tho..

I watched and read the old SeaRay Owners site for several months before deciding on mine. Lots of wisdom here and nice guys that will answer any question or point you in the right direction..

Welcome aboard!

The 240 works great for us  With all the options added to her the joke at the dealer shop was that I was turning her into a cruiser
