I bought my 2007 310DA in 2017 and it had the Kenyan Grill with the faulty heating element. I got the upgrade kit that fixed the problem with it and it’s mostly been trouble free.

I say mostly because I just “fixed” it again after it’s second spell of tripping out the in-line breaker since fixing it. The first round was in 2019, I pulled the grill out, cracked open the electrical box and did nothing more than reseat connectors that were well seated to begin with. I basically did the same thing just now, with the exception that the only connection I touched was the little ground tab — both wires attached were solid, but the screw holding the tab to the control panel enclosure took about 1/4 or less of a turn with a screwdriver. That makes little sense as a fix as that tab seems like it only adds safety ground to the enclosure.

After that I fired it up and let it run for 10 minutes until it was pretty hot, longer and hotter than it would have gotten when it was tripping out.

Does anyone else have this kind of odd experience with theirs? I’m kind of flummoxed as to what was causing this to begin with. Residual moisture? Boat is in a covered slip and sees no water exposure that I could account for.

I have some suspicions it was related to some generator issues I was having, but those issues didn’t effect AC or microwave use and the last time it tripped I checked the control panel voltage meter and the voltage was fine.

What's the upgrade kit?
When I bought my boat, the inline gfci was tripping. I bought another element and it's been working since.
I was told by Kenyon that the ceramic coating gets cracked when people raise the element up to clean it, and that's what makes the gfci trip.

I was told by a guy at Kenyan that the first model year (which mine was) there was a flaw in the element exposed by raising it for cleaning which would result in tripping the breaker. He told me there was a kit they could send me (at cost, if I remember) and that’s what I installed.

The first year I had problems I actually called to ask if I needed to replace the element and the guy said no, the upgraded kit I installed should allow for raising the element for cleaning without causing problems.
