June 7-10-2007 Panama City Beach Rendezvous

I can't tell everyone how much I'd like to make it to Panama City for the rendezvous to meet you guys, and to boat in what sounds to be a great place. Unfortunately, I don't have a tow vehicle or a trailer up to the 29' challenge, nor the ability to drive the boat to the rendezvous.

You guys have a great time and post lots of details and photos of the trip to let all of us "water locked" and "distance challenged" boaters know what we missed. I feel certain I can speak for all the us "no shows" that we'd all be there if we could. :smt089

Thanks Midway. That's awefully nice. Boy this could be fun. Let me do a little checking and see about lodging. Not sure my wife can make it :smt018 , but I won't let that stop me.

Are folks still staying in the Harbour Villas? I'll call tomorrow and see if I can get a place for the dates.

Question for fwebster (frank) Do you keep your boat at Treasure Island marina? If not, where? And do they have slips available for tranisents? I submitted a request to get dockage at Treasure for the weekend. Mike

Yes. I've been a customer of Treasure Island for about 20 years.......great marina, great guys running it, very competent mechanics, service writers need help, but unfortunately they have about maxed out on space utilization.

There are abourt 100 slips in the water....about half and half commercial vs. private, and they also have about 650 dry stack slips in barns and racks on the property. They are severely limited in space available for transients and their barn kept boats since thay all must use the same docks. Most summer weekends they don't even have space for all the boats they launch out of the barns, much less someone from out of town.

I do hope George Laird, the dockmaster, can accomodate you since it isa a nice place, convienent to everything on the water and they have 24 hour security, but don't be suprised or offended if it does not work out. At least you know the reason.

Here is a resonable alternative......Pirates Cove Marina is next door and they usually have some transient space. They are associated with Light House Marina across the lagoon, so one call may do it all. Phone works best with all the marinas, but TIM has a good email system and are usually responsive......make someone take a credit card for the first night's dockage so you are sure you have space reserved if you book space at a place other than TIM.

Bay Point is also nearby and they can usually accomodate transients.....they also have about the nicest marina in the area.

Hope that helps........

OK, I'm definitely in. I've set things up at work and blocked out the Wednesday (the drive down) to Sunday on my calendar. I spoke with Pam at the Bay Point Harbour Villas and reserved a two bedroom villa overlooking the marina. She said there were two one bedroom villas left. I'm not sure if this is the place to stay, but there was nothing to loose, since the reservation is 100% refundable. Is this where the out-of-towners are staying?

Quick Story:

Veterans Day a couple of years ago - We went to Crooked Island for the weekend with the local SR Club. A good friend (UPS Pilot) owned a EC(?) 40 "Overnight Male." He never flew with the military, and really appreciated Fighter Aircraft.

I had to leave early Sunday to prepare a flyby for Veterans Day. My UPS friend was moving back to Louiville and selling his boat, so I told him that in his honor, I would lead a 4-ship F-15 fly-by over his boat, low and fast, on Monday before they headed back home.

Crooked Island is located very close to the base, and it's a point where we sometimes "Hold" while waiting for the right time to execute a fly-by at the local cemetary (and the like). So, at exactly the promised time, I led the formation of F-15's directly over his boat, low and fast.

Later, people say he was so choked up he couldn't talk. Frank was there, if I remember correctly. I'll ask him. Frank?

John

Disclaimer - My memory is excellent, just very short. I may be confusing my friend's last weekend at Crooked with a different Crooked Island trip, but the rest of the story's the same.

Count me in as well...

I'll be there as well with the Job Site. Since I now live in PC, it is not too far to travel to get to the water anymore. I was excited about the last gathering (2 years ago) and then we sat at the house and watched it rain and blow all weekend. But, I trust Richard looked into his crystal ball this time and picked a weekend in the mid 80's with a light breeze and good sunshine.

Moved list forward.
