June 7-10-2007 Panama City Beach Rendezvous

Noleball added to the list and brought the list forward.

Moved list forward to page 7 and updated those that will be unable to attend.

It's looking more and more like I can make it but cannot 100% confirm until March 30th. If I come I may be alone; I don't think the Admiral will be able to attend. That means I'll have plenty of room to board an extra mate or two that cannot bring down their own boat.

Question: I'll again be doing a "camping adventure" on our little Sundancer and staying on the boat, but paying for a 40ft+ slip that may or may not be available strikes me as being kinda foolish. Are there many local areas where there is anchorage [protected/storm safe] available for transients?

I'll be 50 years old on April 30th. If all this works out think I'll put a VHF on my wish list

You don't have a lot of choices. Either pay for a slip. which gets you truck/trailer parking somewhere and a spot to tie up the boat and limited restroom/shower facilities or the better alternative is to call St. Andrews state park and reserve "camping" space there. It is one of the nation's best parks, front is about a mile long on the Gulf and the back or north side is all protected on Grand Lagoon. THere is a small boat basin that is usually full and lots af anchorage space in reasonable depts along the lagoon The park is a long narrow peninsula with camp grounds, public facilities and parking as well a a really nice boat ramp.

The list is getting larger, we are very excited about the trip!!! Thanks to everyone that is helping put this together.

Sure, boats of all sizes are overnighting most every night in the summer behind Shell Island. Redfish Point and Smack Bayou also come to mind. You could even sneak in a shower at the state park if you could find room at the small basin walls for a short visit. So yes, it's very doable as an option.

You can put in at PC marina and likely be fine with your truck and trailer there, as long as you have valuables out of sight in the vehicle. There are rigs there overnight always.

fwebster, I tried to get a slip at Treasure Island but they have nothing avail. I made a reservation at Bay Point Marina but they don't have any trailer parking even with slip rental. I talked to George at Treasure and he doesn't have trailer parking. Do you have any suggestions?

There are a couple of storage lots on Thomas Drive that store trailers. They are next to other businesses and storage is not their prime activity so I don't know how to get in touch with either. I"m in Tennessee this week and can't go see.

PM Richard, Stihlbolts, and ask what he does at Bay Point. I know there are trailers parked over there...I've sen them. Could be the Bay Point attitude or you may need to know the secret handshake, but it would appear that if they rent you a slip they should provide parking space for a trailer.

Treasure Island only has one parking lot and there isn't even enough room for restaurant parking in the summer, so George's reply does not suprise me.

Moved Islandhopper00 to the definite list, making reservations for boat sounds like he is going to be there.

That is 10 definite so far.

The boss man allowed me the time off so yes, I'm going to be there as long as I can find a place to park my trailer. :smt101 You'd think the marina that I stay at would let me but not happening. I'll keep trying.

Do you have reservations for a room or condo somewhere? If you are staying at Bay Point and they won't let you park a trailer there, I'm sure we can help with accomodations somewhere else at least as good that is more accomodating for the boat.

no I am staying on the boat. If I have to I'll try to find another marina that will let me park my truck and trailer though.
Finally got ahold of Pirates Cove Marina(Shela) and she seems to think they will have some transient slips with power and water available, however they don't take reservations. Need to contact her a few days before getting there. :smt101 :smt038 :smt017 I guess that about sums up my luck.

Sheila is good to work with.....my advice is to stay in touch with her regularly and I imagine she will take care of you. Pirates Cove has a long T-dock with room for about 4 boats like yours on it. They try to keep it open for the restaurant, but if it comes to your $1.50/ft/nite or nothing, guess who they will take care of.

Keep working with Sheila.....avoid going higher in the pecking order (and there is a reason I'd rather not publish). Talk with frequently enough that she remembers you. Most of the time those folks are treated like servants and they appreciate it when someone is courteous and takes the time to get to know them.

Pirate's Cove is a decent marina. It will be quiet, not much traffic and there are clean restrooms and a restaurant on the property. They have tons of parking space as well.

Good advice Frank, I'll do exactly that. I don't have to cancel my reservation at Bay Point Marina untill 24 hours before arrival date. I'll just be as flexable as I can be. Shelia tells me if they don't have a slip available when I get there maybe I can Park my trailer in their lot, for a fee of course. Thanks Mike

We'll definately get that thing parked. This isn't like Destin or Ft Walton Beach.

We trailered the 250 to Destin last year for a weekend on Crab Island. We launched at a public boat ramp on the Saturday of a 3-day weekend. I had to back my full-sized truck with a 26' trailer into a diagonal slot with road signs, mailboxes, and cement pilings on one side and pine trees on the other. No one else was stupid enough to try it.

Good thing everyone else was at the boat, because I had to crawl out of the window to get out. It would have been easier to put the trailer on the roof, but it worked!
