June 11th 2011 - Newport/Block Island Area Ideas

I do an annual "Guys Weekend Boating" with a few of my friends (wives go to a spa somewhere, go figure). Last year we did Nantucket, before that Newburyport.



This year we are targeting the Newport, Block Island, even Montaulk area. I'm looking for some ideas on where to go. Have a few needs...

• Decent dockage, nice bath/shower facilities
• Nightlife (restaurants, bars, dance clubs)
• Prefer an island setting, but mainland is possible, too.

That's about it....

Three great trips........Newport - WestWind is the party spot - you won't need to leave their "compound", But The Newport Harbor Hotel is Great too (and closer to everything in town)--- Block Island - Champlins (again you don't have to leave) but you may want to check out the action in town too! --- Montauk - The MYC - check out the rendezvous thread for info!

Why not do Oak Bluffs then...Block will be dead at this time of the year (although I love it then)

Thanks for the tips. As WetPaint suggests, will Block be dead then? Last year in Nantucket the town was abuzz at this time nights.

Not OB, mostly because we do it so much with our families that we want something that we haven't done. Tx.

Have you considered Mystic? Seaport Marine is right down town with cement floaters, new showers and "D" dock has a great night life. Not to mention at least 10 bars in crawling distance that I can think of.

We could hit OB for Friday night, then head out early Sat for BI or Newport.

I had not. Never been there. Looking at a map, there seem to be several marinas/docks in the area. Anyone in particular?

Chuck...How about P Town......I love the shows, area and people watching....And as a bonus, you wont get divorced either! PTown to me is so underated as a destination....Just another thought...

I agree...I had discussed it with the guests, but it didn't get much traction.:huh:

If you want to be in the middle of things go to Mitchell Park town marina 631-477-2200. About a mile out of town there is a nice protected spot with bar and pool called Townsend Marina 631-477-2000 walking distance.

Wentworth by the Sea in Portsmouth is quite nice. Ties into the pool at the Marriott, local dining at the marina and hotel and easy pretty dingy ride to downtown.

Haven't locked in to anything yet. Haven't finished my research of the viarous areas yet.
