July 1-11 Crabbing opens

Great job Tod, good for you. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

1. What do you use for bait?

2. Does everybody eat 5 or do you have some leftovers?

We used chicken this weekend. We will save Salmon heads and carcasses too, but we were out. If we can find the chicken that the store has $1 off because they're about to pull it we'll get that. The nastier the better.
We have some leftovers....but it won't last long.
Dam you Todd. I'm getting hungry again!
....they're really good in fresh garlic butter with a minced up fresh basil leaf.

Todd, do you ever roast them in butter or olive oil? We will drop them in the water an 1/2 cook them, pull the shell off to apply butter or olive oil & seasonings then throw them in the oven (shells put back on) and finish them there. Fanfreakingtastic!

No but we did see a method last year where they are wrapped in white wine, garlic and olive oil(or butter) then placed on the grill. It was very good.

Fred Meyer has save head and carcus for us from their filleting last week we picked up about 10 lbs worth from them. Crabbing around Vashon Island was terrible 2 keepers 20 4" indians have had their pots in for over a month.

Come north.

Hey Todd - so where abouts is this good crabbing in the Sound?? I've never had luck like you out there! ;)

I buy the chicken parts a day early, put them in a ziplock bag with about a tablespoon of "Smelly Jelly" and let it marinate outside for a day. Almost knocks you over when the bag opens but the crabs love it.
