Im looking to upgrade the speakers so I can them better without distortion and get a bit more bass out of them. Anyone have any experience with the JL marine speakers? Specifically the M650-CCX. Here is the crutchfield page for them: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_136M650CG/JL-Audio-M650-CCX.html?tp=3384

Also, what is the standard speaker size for my boat? Will these fit without modification?

Those are sweet speakers. Let me know the best price you find and I can match it if you have any interest in getting them from us.

Definitely plan to purchase from BOE. I used the crutchfield link because of their surplus of information.

Any idea of fitment into the stock holes?

I have a pair of these in my boat along with a pair of 770's.
They are awesome if set up right. Beware the Jl's have a deeper basket than Clarions and Alpine, deeper than most brands. The specs are right on, so meausre first. these 6.5's should drop right into your current factory locations, just check the depth clearance. Any questions, just ask. I have a complete JL system in my boat 650's, 770's subs, and amps (all JL) and it rocks!!!!

I just installed 4 - 6.5's and a 10" sub. The only issue was with the 2 6.5's in the radar arch. The arch was not deep enough, so I fabricated round spacers out of ply wood (used jig saw and band saw to cut the circles and painted them gloss white. Looks great! Sounds even better. I am ridiculously happy with these speakers. They sound great at the dock and they sound just as good when running the boat. The best part is, I did not replace my Clarion stereo, and it is driving these speakers like a champ.

For the record, I have a pretty expensive sound system in my home theater, so I beleive I have a pretty good ear for a good sound system. Go with the JL's - You won't regret it.

If you need any minor fabrication needed I may be able to help you.

WOW! I heard a pair of JL's over the weekend and they sounded awesome! Not sure which ones though. Had great bass without an amp. I am looking to get a pair to retro in my radar arch to go with my pioneer dvh-5000p and pioneer 8" ts mr 2040 speakers I already upgraded to. Any suggestions to which ones and should I also get a 4 channel amp?

Dani lu,
Any pics of your fab for the arch?

My stock Clarion holes were 5.5 inches, too big for a M650 drop-in fit. I went with two pairs of JL 770 separates in the arch. They kick arse! Not just loud, but the clarity is what is impressive.

Well looks now like I may be buying a condo...upgrading speakers that still work isn't a great idea I guess until I get through the initial costs.
