Ya gotta love a 50* day in January when the sun's out nice and bright. I don't blame you for taking the boat out and doing a little ice breaking along the way. That just adds to the adventure! Thanks for taking us along.

Glad you got out but.......small boat + no life jacket + very cold water = putting life at risk
Come on, wheres your sense of adventure?? LOL, That little boat reminds me of my little sears 11' Jon boat (rated for a 5h.p.) w/my dads ol' 1958 johnson 10 h.p., that damn thing would fly and was fun as heck to drive!!

I'm up for the fun, especially the Miller Lite. You go in the water now, clothes on, without a life jacket and I would think your chances of making it to shore would be diminished.

Even with a PFD, I don't think a person would make it to shore. You'd need someone to pull you out almost immediately. Saw it in a Coast Guard public service video late last summer. Used some able-bodied male volunteers and some didn't do so well - had to be assisted by divers in wet suits that were already in the water on standby for rescue. I was impressed by how quickly and severely the cold water affected them.

Still it is great to be able to get out in a boat in Jan in the midwest. Folks were playing golf here in the Twin Cities Jan 10th. Although lots of ice rescues for folks icefishing with unsafe conditions this year. Huge chunks have broken off and floated out into open water up on Lake Mille Lacs.

Up here on the Chain o Lakes they drain the waterways down 2-3 feet in the winter to help protect piers and prevent flooding in the spring , most places if you did get introuble you could walk to shore , I have sunk many snowmobiles here and in most places its waist deep in winter , we did infact have pfds in the boat with us and i did have my inflatable pfd on under my snowmobile jacket , a few years back I dressed as santa and went water skiing down the Fox River behind my uncles F16 sea ray jet boat , great times !!

I also used to have a small west marine plastic tender , i think 6 foot , and put a Merc 9.9 hp on it , that thing ripped !!!! had to put a bunch of bricks in front to ballat it , was great till our local pd stopped me for a safety check ,lol

Bump , this motor is for sale , $400. runs great , 91 ,Force 5 hp , gas tank and fuel line included , 815-528-0433 , Rich

Proof that cold water kills. This last week a worker fell 150 feet in the Detroit River (37 degrees) painting the bride to Canada. Persons saw him in the water struggling to swim to shore but never made it. Today Saturday they are still searching for the body.

We used to paddle rivers in the artic. Water temperature was 35 to 40f or so. We always had on wet suits. Twice we tipped. Even with a wet suit you get cold very fast.

What would the shipping cost be to 13477 ??.

I just calculated an Aproximate shipping cost using UPS ground ,would be aprox $50.- 65. dollars , I believe the motor weighs roughly 35 pounds , plus tank and packing = 45 to 50 pounds, If your interested , tommorow ill swing by our local UPS store and find out exact amount , and see if i can even ship the gas tank ?
