Well, we went and got the 270 today. It was a all day job. Got to the Marina about 10AM and took about a Hr to prep the boat. Things like getting the drives up, Unbolting the radar arch. Got it loaded and took off by noon. We got it home and had a small problem unloading it. When it came off the ramp the ramps dug into the dirt and we were stuck there for a while. At 3 Hr's later we got another 4x4 hooked to the truck and pulled on out from under it in just a few second. I did not foresee this problem. What a bummer. You plan for everything and something like that happened. Any way. All is well no damage to the boat. Only slight damage to the cradel i built yesterday. It was a 1 shot cradel any way.

Geez, What a long day.

Nice boat. I've never seen a boat trailered that way. How will you reload it?? I'd be scared SH&&less to try that method of unloading:grin:. Good Job

Nicky

Look at it this way- No worry's about water below decks.....

I'm impressed. My mind is wondering! Not always good, when that this happens!:smt101

If I sell it, they need to come with a hydraulic boat trailer to get it.... If I keep it,,,,,,,,, and I am starting to think that I want to!!!!! Way cool boat!!!!!!.... I will build A trailer frame around it, jack the frame up like a mobile home and put the axles under it.

Keep the boat. take pictures and post them of trailer being built. These boats are lots of fun:grin:

I want to keep it but this one could be so much profit for us. We paid $100 for it I can put 2 or 3 K in it and net it for 2 or 3K But on the flip side. I have worked on, rebuilt, restored a lot of boats now. This is my first SeaRay. I have kinda poo pooed them in the past becasue on my local lake they are every other boat. I am on Lake Martin in Al. we had the Aquapalloza Sig event this year. There are 3 monolithic dealers on the Lake and they are ambassador dealers. I tell you this to show how I was jaded by SeaRays.

But now,,,,,, Ummm now,,,,, I don't know,,,,,,,,,,,. I may have been wrong all this time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. Now I think they are the cats Meow. LOL,

Any way, there is a lot of work before me and I have about 7 boats in states of restoration and refurbishment. I will need to let time and the WOW of it die down before I can make a rational choice to keep it or sell it. But again,,,,,,,,,,,,, It's such a cool boat. so much storage. they use ever inch of the boat.

Call me the dumbass in the group but I can't for the life of me figure how you got the boat off the back of that trailer. With all the boats you've hauled & worked on, you obviously know what you are doing though!

By the way...... Great series of posts to start off your time here on CSR. Thanks.

Thats the easiest way to unload - tie to a tree and drive out from under it. I'm impressed with your cradle.

What condition is that $100 boat in? Looks decent from the outside.

Welcome & keep us up to date.

Come on now MWPH...Alabama folks get it done.

Morning folks.:smt043 It's in "good" shape on the inside. Needs mostly freshening up, cosmetic stuff. Both engines will turnover, in fact they run. One drive is bad the other is mechanically good.

According to the records I found aboard the boat, it had spent time in Florida and salt water. So, becasue of rot from no zincs,,, both drives look like crap and need & shall be replaced.

Spookeay,

My brother in Birmingham is finishing up an '83 22' Formula. During that restoration we learned that an Alpha I drive will bolt up to the old MR-1 gimbals. The Alphas are everywhere and easier to find than the old "No. 1" drives. The Alpha series II will bolt up but the sides of the case need to be shaved a bit to fit between the gimbal "ears". Thought this might hep you when you go scrounging for stuff.

Also, if you go to www.searay.com you can look that boat up to get more info. They might still have the parts and owners manuals for that year that you can download in PDF. If not...some of the later models might be the same.

Have fun:thumbsup:

I am going to put new drives on I found Alpha 1 replacements for $1300 each.. As for the manuals and paper work, they are all still in the boat. We had about 4" of rain last night. I need to go see what new water leaks there were in the night.:smt024

Interesting find you have there. I had never seen a boat transported like that either. I'd like to see more pictures. Best of luck on the restoration.

Be sure to check this out before you buy (if you haven't already).

http://www.sterndrive.cc/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=MercruiserAlphaSterndrive

I know people that have used these drives and they swear by them...reportedly better quality than the Mercs.

Not bad for $1195...plus you are in Alabama so you don't pay sales tax. If you know any truckers around Alex City that go through Tampa you can get them to pick these up for you and save the freight.

"I need to go see what new water leaks there were in the night."

Look closely at the headliner beneath the windshield...also around the edges where the bow rail stantions bolt through the deck.
Time does a number on the sealant and if hasn't been re-sealed.....:wow:

I'll back him up on the Sterndrive Engineering replacements.
I installed (2) of the SE106's on our 270DA two years ago.
Cost us $2,860 for the pair with anodes, needed intallation kits and shipping to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
We have been workin' them hard and are very pleased with their performance. Plus you can't beat their no condition 3 year warranty.

As far as leaks ours had the long side windows causing issues when we first picked her up. Leaking between the frame and deck - had to pull them and re-seal.

Best of Luck !

I got in there today and got some better photos explored and cleaned up some. Still trying to find things and better understand the systems.

I went to your web site and I have to say that I am impressed by what you do....very rare and unique...especially where you are.

You have found a good source of info here at CSR. This is the very best I have seen for Sea Ray Boats. This site is an offshoot of the old Sea Ray Owners Forum that was run by Brunswick up until 2005. Brunswick threw it away and a few of the old time members picked it up and renewed it.

The Sea Rays are for the most part very solid. They have had some screw ups in the past but for the most part they are very good...they have good "bones". Some of the interior stuff is sort of like a house trailer and is not durable. I have used up dated fabrics and leather in the past and had good results. Some of the water and sanitation systems have to be re-worked A~Z with new equipment. There are quite a few vendors that Sea Ray has used over the years that can give you a lot of information about where to get replacement parts. It helps to know a good Sea Ray Parts man. One of the best in the South East is John Mass at Treasure Island Marine in Panama City.

If you hit a snag don't hessitate to post your question on here. There are people all over the planet with these boats that keep up with this site...you will get an answer and usually very quickly.

We look forward to following your progress with this project.

John F.

Dang - for $100!?!?! How did you find that auction when nobody else did???

Good catch, looks like you should be able to finish her off but judging by the pictures she shouldn't need much. You may have just accomplished the hardest part - the cradle & unloading!

Keep us posted.

I see all sorts of projects on your property- none of which are complete.
There are no pics on your webiste under "recently finished".
Do you have before/after pics of any completed projects?
